Dumb ones perform the rite of a careful tattva, and the singer laughs. Do the gods become stone as well? What else is there to do but laugh? The three cannot know the first shoot of the three-eyed one. See that he stays mixed in you as the guard.

The teaching

A ferocious Siddha critique of idol worship and the blind performance of theological rituals. Sivavakkiyar expresses scornful laughter at dumb ritualists who exhaust themselves performing intricate, mechanical ceremonies according to scholastic dogmas How can a chiseled slab of stone ever become the living God The primordial sprout of consciousness—the Three-Eyed Lord who remains incomprehensible even to the cosmic Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu, and Rudra)—is not imprisoned in an external stone shrine. He resides perpetually mingled within the seeker's own breath and consciousness as their eternal protector and witness.

Verse 130

  1. 1Kaalaimaalai niirilee muzhugumandha muudargaal
  2. 2Kaalaimaalai niirilee kidandhadheerai enperum
  3. 3Kaalamee ezhundhirundhu kangalmuunril onrinaal
  4. 4Muulamee ninaippiraagil muththisiththi yaagumee.

Fools dive in water morning and evening. The song asks what one gains from the frog that lies in that same water. Rise at the time itself, and with one of the three eyes meditate on the root. Then release and power come.

The teaching

The absurdity of external ritual ablutions (தீர்த்தாடனம்) versus the internal awakening of the Third Eye. Sivavakkiyar ridicules the orthodox practice of plunging into cold rivers at dawn and dusk to wash away sins. If mere submersion in water could confer spiritual liberation, the frog that remains immersed in that same river day and night would surely attain enlightenment! The true spiritual dawn requires waking up to higher consciousness and opening the Third Eye of wisdom By fixing one's contemplation upon the Primordial Root (மூலம் / Muladhara and Supreme Source) through this inner eye, spiritual liberation (முத்தி) and supernatural yogic perfections (சித்தி) are effortlessly attained.

Verse 131

Are there two gods because one mouth says ours and another says yours? Are there two because one stands there and one stands here? The primal form that is both there and here is asked as one. People who spoke the compressed factional word வங்கவாரம் will die with a mouth gone to worms.

The teaching

A scathing assault on sectarian bigotry, religious factionalism, and theological arrogance. Sivavakkiyar violently rejects the tribalist delusion that divides the Divine into competing sectarian camps—arguing over "our God" versus "your God," or localizing the Divine as residing "here" but not "there." The Primordial Supreme Being (ஆதிமூர்த்தி) is an absolute, indivisible Unity that equally permeates all spaces, beings, and dimensions. Those deceitful partisans who propagate sectarian hatred and malicious divisions (வங்கவாரம்) commit spiritual treason against the Truth; the poet sternly declares that their mouths will rot with worms as the karmic consequence of their toxic dogma.

Verse 132

  1. 1அறையறை இடைக்கிடந்த அன்றுதூமை என்கிறீர்;
  1. 1Araiyarai idaikkidandha anrudhuumai engiriir;

A run of accusations about தூமை, the pollution you name for a day. You call it தூமை when it lies between room and room. You call it தூமை even when birth comes in its known order. You call it தூமை if someone bathes knowing the ghat. The last line asks how anyone joins with base people who carry no real weight.

The teaching

A radical Siddha deconstruction of ritual pollution and menstrual taboos (தூமை). Orthodox patriarchal society invents endless, hypocritical rules regarding purity, stigmatizing womanhood and labeling the sacred process of gestation and birth as unclean. Sivavakkiyar exposes the absurdity of their prejudice: when the human fetus lay within the chambers of the womb, it was surrounded by those very fluids; when the child was born in the natural course of life, it emerged through that portal; and even when people bathe in holy river ghats, water carries natural cycles. How can an authentic seeker of Truth endure the company of such shallow, intolerant hypocrites who weaponize artificial notions of pollution while possessing no spiritual forbearance?

Verse 133

  1. 1Saththamvandha veliyilee salamirundhu vandhadhum
  2. 2Maththamaagi niirilee thuvandumuuzhgum muudaree!

  4. 4Piththargaayam utradheedhu peedhameedhu podhamee?

Sound came in the open, and water came after being water, and fools become a churn and sink weary in it. Then the questions strip the vocabulary of purity. What is purity, what is the tie, what is the purity that stood and was seen? What did the madman's body catch, what is difference, what is knowing?

The teaching

The cosmogonic origins of nature and the dismantling of the delusion of ritual purity. Sivavakkiyar traces the evolution of the cosmos: from the primordial ethereal space (சிதம்பர வெளி), primal vibration and sound (Nada) emerged, which in turn condensed into the element of water. How foolish, then, are the ritualists who become intoxicated with self-righteousness, frantically plunging into external water under the illusion that it washes the soul! What is this artificial "purity"? What is this imaginary "bondage"? What is this perishable physical body that worldly madmen cling to? In the spotless, all-pervading expanse of pure Consciousness (போதம்), all superficial dualities and notions of pollution cease to exist.

Verse 134

Month after month it is தூமை, including the தூமை that was forgotten. Did it stand once the month was gone, or did it grow and become a form? Nada, Veda, and the good clans are all asked 'what.' The priests who recite the Veda are told to say the way this ripened.

The teaching

One of the most fearless, iconic social interrogations in Tamil literature. Sivavakkiyar directly confronts orthodox priests who preach caste purity while treating female menstruation (தூமை) as an untouchable taboo. He reminds them of an undeniable biological truth: every human form was conceived precisely because the monthly menstrual cycle ceased and coalesced within the maternal womb to nourish and form the infant body. Where then are their haughty claims of noble caste (நற்குலங்கள்), their memorized Vedas, and their philosophical Nada? Sivavakkiyar challenges the Vedic brahmins to account for their own biological conception and explain how their bodies were formed, utterly shattering the myth of ritual caste superiority.
