The தூமை that stood seeping and the life that stood congealed are spoken of as if they were different, and the fools are asked how this ripened. The good clans are asked whether they are anything but the தூமை that stinks. The raging fool is told that this தூமை is the very form in which he stands.

The teaching

An unsparing exposure of the biological hypocrisy behind caste pride. Orthodox hypocrites attempt to separate the physical fluid of the womb (தூமை) from the spiritual life-force (சீவன்), despising the former as impure while claiming high-born spiritual status. Sivavakkiyar asks them bluntly how this embodied life ever came into being: is it not from that very maternal fluid—which they disdain as foul-smelling—that all their so-called "noble castes" and lineages were generated? He addresses the raging, self-righteous puritan directly, declaring that his own physical form is nothing other than the crystallized manifestation of that very maternal fluid. Caste pride is exposed as an absurd, ungrateful delusion.

Verse 137

  1. 1Thiimaigandu ninrapennin thuumaidhaanum uuriyee

  3. 3Thuumaidhaanum aasaiyaay thurandhirundha siivanai
  4. 4Thuumaiatru kondirundha theesameedhu theesamee?

The தூமை of the woman who stood and saw the wrong also seeped, and everywhere in the land man and woman joined and the world was seen. A life that had stayed renounced, with that தூமை itself as desire, is set against a last question. What country is the country that held on without தூமை?

The teaching

The universality of biological life and the futility of religious escapism. Throughout the entire world, all human existence emerges through the union of male and female and the generative fertility of womanhood. Even the ascetic who attempts to renounce the world was once brought into embodied life through this very maternal current. Sivavakkiyar poses a devastating rhetorical question: which land, kingdom, or people on the face of the earth ever came into being without this sacred life-giving fluid? By universalizing the maternal principle, the Siddha shames those who cast religious slurs on the natural laws of creation.

Verse 138

  4. 4Veenum enra apporul viraindhugaanal aagumee!

You wander in vain saying you want it, you want it. Search as you may under that wanting, there is nothing besides what already is. After the craving that searches with 'I want' is renounced, the very thing you said you wanted comes quickly into view.

The teaching

Advaitic contentment and the instant revelation of the indwelling Reality. The root cause of human suffering and spiritual wandering is the insatiable, restless fever of desire—the perpetual cry of "I want! I want!" Sivavakkiyar reveals the fundamental truth of non-dual existence: no matter how exhaustively one hunts across the external world, nothing exists apart from That which is already eternally present The Supreme Self cannot be acquired as a future attainment or an external prize. The very moment the seeker renounces the grasping habit of desire, the Supreme Treasure that was always longed for reveals itself immediately within the heart.

Verse 139

  4. 4Pottadhaay mudindhadhee piraanaiyaan arindhapin!

The Veda the learned recite, the auspiciousness called excellent, the causes set in place, and the truth-books that were uttered are gathered into one heap. Teaching tied up and stored, and madness fit for a tale, all of it ended as a barren nothing. The moment named is the moment the singer knew the Lord.

The teaching

The absolute obsolescence of scriptures, theological doctrines, and religious fables upon direct divine realization. Sivavakkiyar catalogues the prized possessions of the intellectual and religious elite: the chanting of the Vedas, the study of the Agamas, the philosophical proofs of causation, and the bundles of sacred texts and mythic allegories. Yet the moment the poet directly experienced the indwelling Lord in unmediated awakening, this entire mountain of religious learning collapsed into barren dust (பொட்டதாய் முடிந்ததே). Books, dogmas, and theological debate are revealed as mere scaffolding—wholly unnecessary once the living Truth has been tasted within one's own being.

Verse 140

  1. 1Nuurugodi aagamangal nuurugodi mandhiram
  2. 2Nuurugodi naalirundhu odhinaal adhuenpayan?
  3. 3Aarum aarum aarumaay agaththilor ezhuththumaay
  4. 4Eerusiir ezhuththaiodha iisanvandhu peesumee!

A hundred crore of Agamas and a hundred crore of mantras, and a hundred crore of days spent reciting them: the line asks what use that is. Against the heap it sets six and six and six, and one letter inside. Recite the letter whose excellence rises, and the Lord comes and speaks.

The teaching

The supremacy of internal yogic resonance over the mechanical chanting of scriptures. Memorizing a hundred crore of Agamas, reciting a hundred crore of mantras, and spending endless lifetimes in external recitation yield absolutely no spiritual fruit if the heart remains closed. Sivavakkiyar contrasts this textual exhaustion with the internal science of Kundalini yoga: ascending through the energetic chakras (six, six, and six) and sounding the Single Syllable (ஓர் எழுத்து—the Pranava Om / Ekakshara) within the spinal axis. When this glorious, ascending vibration resonates through the Sushumna, the indwelling Lord Himself awakens and communes directly with the seeker.

Verse 141

  4. 4Kaalaimaalai aagininra kaalanillai illaiyee.

Yama stands mixed in morning and evening themselves. You are asked to say what maya it is that reddened into dusk and dawn, the printed join compressed. If you, rid of morning and evening, contract into the heart, the Yama who stood as morning and evening is not.

The teaching

The conquest of time, death, and dualistic breath through internal yogic absorption. Yama (காலனார்), the lord of death, is not an external mythological monster, but the relentless progression of time (காலம்), experienced through the dual cycles of dawn and dusk and the alternating breaths of Ida and Pingala. When the yogi transcends the duality of morning and evening by centralizing the life-force into the Sushumna and dissolving consciousness into the stillness of the Self (கருத்திலே ஒடுங்குதல்), the illusion of linear time collapses. In that timeless awareness, the dreaded god of death is completely dissolved—he exists no more.
