1ஊரிலுள்ள மனிதர்காள் ஒருமனதாய்க் கூடியே
2தேரிலே வடத்தைவிட்டு செம்பைவைத்து இழுக்கிறீர்
3ஆரினாலும் அறியொணாத ஆதிசித்த நாதரை
4போரிலான மனிதர்பண்ணும் புரளிபாரும் பாருமே.

ஊரிலுள்ள மக்கள் அனைவரும் ஒற்றுமையாக ஒன்று கூடி, மரத் தேரில் வடம் பிடித்து, அதன் மீது ஒரு செம்புச் சிலையை ஏற்றி வைத்து இழுத்துச் செல்வதைச் சிவவாக்கியர் எள்ளலோடு சுட்டுகிறார். எவராலும் மனத்தால் அளக்க முடியாத, எங்கும் நிறைந்த 'ஆதிசித்த நாதராகிய' உண்மைக் கடவுளைத் தமக்குள் அறியாமல் விட்டுவிட்டு, தங்களுக்குள் எந்நேரமும் சண்டையிட்டுப் போராடும் மனிதர்கள் வீதிகளில் நடத்தும் இந்தப் போலித் திருவிழா ஒரு பெரிய புரளியே (மாயைக் கூத்தே) அன்றி வேறென்ன என்று மதச் சடங்கு அரசியலைத் தோலுரிக்கிறார்.

The town is gathered with one mind, and the shared work is the chariot. They put the haul-rope to the car, set the piece the print names in a compressed word, and drag. The lord of the next line is the primal perfected one, whom no one can know. Look, the singer says, at the fraud performed by people of the quarrel. A single mind spent on hauling the car is the trick these lines want seen.

The teaching

With biting satire, Sivavakkiyar exposes the collective delusion of temple chariot festivals (தேர்த்திருவிழா). The entire town gathers in unison, grasping massive ropes to drag a colossal wooden chariot bearing a brass or copper idol (செம்பு) through the streets. The poet highlights the tragic irony: the Supreme Primal Siddha Lord (ஆதிசித்த நாதர்) is boundless, formless, and uncontainable by any mind or structure. Yet people who are perpetually engaged in petty social conflicts stage this massive, noisy spectacle, pulling a heavy piece of metal while remaining entirely blind to the living God within their own hearts. Sivavakkiyar urges the wise to see through this collective religious theater.

அஞ்ஞான மாயை புகுந்த மனத்தினால் உலகப் பற்றுக்களில் மயங்கிக் கிடக்கும் மாந்தரே! சற்குரு உபதேசித்த ஞான மந்திரத்தைப் பற்றிக்கொண்டு இந்தப் பிறவிப் பெருங்கடலை நீந்திக் கடக்க நீங்கள் துணிந்தால், ஆன்ம பக்குவத்திற்கான பெரும் சோதனைகளைத் தாங்க வேண்டும். பருத்தியானது நூலாகவும் ஆடையாகவும் மாறுவதற்குள் அடிபடுதல், வில்லால் அடித்தல், நூலாதல் எனப் பன்னிரண்டு கடுமையான பாடுகளைப் படுவது போல, குருவின் சீடர்களும் தங்கள் அகந்தையை இழந்து, கடுமையான ஆன்மப் புடமிடுதலுக்கு ஆளாகியே முக்தி நிலையை எய்த முடியும் எனச் சித்தர் கடின சாதனையை உணர்த்துகிறார்.

Delusion has entered the mind, and the people are wandering. The mantra the guru gave is allowed its chance: take it, if you can, and swim. What follows is hard. The servant the guru gave, and the child whose face the line calls broken, will meet the twelve lots that fell to cotton. The images are tight and uncertain in the print. A guru's gift stands beside an ordeal the song names in full.

The teaching

Addressing those whose minds are clouded by spiritual delusion (மருள்), Sivavakkiyar emphasizes the rigorous, testing ordeal of true spiritual discipleship. If an aspirant has the fortitude to grasp the sacred mantra imparted by the Satguru and use it to cross the turbulent ocean of worldly existence, they must be prepared for the intense alchemical purification of the soul. Just as raw cotton must endure twelve harrowing stages of beating, carding, spinning, and weaving before becoming a pure cloth, the disciple must undergo severe trials that completely dismantle personal ego, vanity, and comfort. Spiritual liberation is not a cheap verbal ritual, but the radical purification of consciousness through fire.

Verse 244

1அன்னைகர்ப்ப அறைஅதற்குள் அங்கியின்பிர காசமாய்
2அந்தறைக்குள் வந்திருந்து அரியவந்து ரூபமாய்
3தன்னைஒத்து நின்றபோது தடையறுத்து வெளியதாய்
4தங்கநற் பெருமைதந்து தலைவனாய் வளர்ந்ததே.

தாயின் இருண்ட கருப்பை அறைக்குள் பரம்பொருள் ஆதி மூலக்கனலின் (அங்கியின்) பிரகாசமாய் வீற்றிருந்து அருளினான். அந்த ரகசிய அறைக்குள் அருவமான பரம் அரிய மனித உருவமாய் வடிவெடுத்து, ஆன்மாவும் உடலும் ஒன்றிணைந்து பக்குவமடைந்தபோது, கருப்பையின் தடைகளை எல்லாம் உடைத்துக் கொண்டு வெளி உலகிற்கு வந்தது. மனிதனாகப் பிறந்த ஆன்மா மாயைக்கு அடிமையாகாமல், அந்த மூலக் கனலின் பெருமையைப் பெற்றுத் தனக்குத்தானே ஆன்மத் தலைவனாய் (ஞான நாயகனாய்) வளர்ந்து நிற்றலே மானுடப் பிறவியின் மெய்ப்பயனாகும் எனச் சிவவாக்கியர் விளக்குகிறார்.

Inside the chamber of the mother's womb these lines see the shining of fire. Something comes and stays in that chamber as a rare form that arrived. The printed phrase is compressed, and rare is the plain sense, while the name Hari also hovers in the same syllables. When it stood equal to itself, it cut the barrier and was the open. It gave a great golden worth and grew as the chief. The growth is told as a thing already accomplished.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar perceives the mystery of human gestation as a sacred spiritual alchemy. Within the dark chamber of the maternal womb, the divine essence abides as the brilliant radiance of inner fire (அங்கியின் பிரகாசம்), where the formless takes on a rare, wondrous human form. When the developing body reaches its full harmony, it breaks through the restrictive barrier of the womb and emerges into the open world. Endowed with innate spiritual nobility, the soul is destined to grow not as a helpless slave to circumstance, but as a sovereign master of consciousness (தலைவன்)—a fully awakened being who commands its own spiritual liberation.

Verse 245

1உன்னையற்ப நேரமும் மறந்திருக்க லாகுமோ
2உள்ளமீது உறைந்தெனை மறைப்பிலாத சோதியைப்
3பொன்னவென்ற பேரொளிப் பொருவில்லாத ஈசனே
4பொன்னடிப் பிறப்பில்லாமை என்றுநல்க வேணுமே.

என் உள்ளக் கோயிலிலேயே நிலையாக வீற்றிருந்து, எவ்விதத் திரையுமின்றி எனக்குள் நேருக்கு நேராக ஒளிரும் மறைப்பிலாத ஞானச் சோதியை ஒரு கணப் பொழுதேனும் மறந்திருக்க என்னால் இயலுமோ? பொன்னை வெல்லும் பேரொளிப் பிழம்பாய் விளங்கும் இணையற்ற ஈசனே! இவ்வுலகின் அற்பச் செல்வங்களையோ சொர்க்க சுகங்களையோ நான் வேண்டவில்லை; உன் திருவடி நிழலில் இணைந்து மீண்டும் ஒரு பிறவி எடுக்காத 'பிறப்பில்லாமை' என்னும் முக்திப் பெருவரத்தை எப்போது எனக்கு நல்குவாய் என்று சிவவாக்கியர் பேரன்போடு இறைஞ்சுகிறார்.

The tone turns to prayer. Could you be forgotten even for a slight moment? The light has settled on the heart, and it is a light without a veil. The lord is a great light called gold, and a lord without a match. What is asked is birthlessness at the golden foot, granted for always. Closeness and a request share the same breath.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar pours out his heart in an exquisite prayer of total devotional surrender and non-dual intimacy. He asks how it is possible to forget the Beloved even for a passing instant, when the Lord dwells upon the altar of the heart as the unveilable, self-luminous Light (மறைப்பிலாத சோதி). The Lord is the peerless Supreme Being (பொருவில்லாத ஈசன்), shining with a golden effulgence that eclipses all material glory. The Siddha seeks neither heaven nor earthly riches; his single, passionate petition at the Lord's golden feet is the supreme gift of birthlessness (பிறப்பில்லாமை)—total and eternal release from the cycle of samsara.

1பிடித்ததண்டும் உம்மதோ பிரமமான பித்தர்காள்
2தடித்தகோலம் அத்தைவிட்டு சாதிபேதங் கொண்மினோ,
3வடித்திருந்த தோர்சிவத்தை வாய்மைகூற வல்லீரேல்
4திடுக்கமுற்ற ஈசனைச் சென்றுகூட லாகுமே.

கையில் துறவுக் கோல் (தண்டு) பிடித்துக் கொண்டு, தங்களைப் பிரம்ம ஞானிகள் என்று பிதற்றும் வேடதாரிகளைச் சித்தர் எச்சரிக்கிறார். நீங்கள் தூக்கிப் பிடித்திருக்கும் மரத்தண்டால் ஆன்மா தூய்மையாகிவிடுமா? துறவு வேடத்தைத் தரித்துவிட்டு, மனதிற்குள் விஷம்போலச் சாதி பேதங்களையும் உயர்வு தாழ்வுகளையும் சுமந்து கொண்டிருப்பது எத்துணை கொடிய வஞ்சனை! அந்தப் போலி வேடங்களை விடுத்து, மாசற்ற தூய சிவத்தின் உண்மைப் பொருளை உள்ளபடி வாய்மையோடு உணர வல்லீரானால், அச்சமூட்டும் மாயைகளை எல்லாம் சுட்டெரிக்கும் அந்தப் பரம ஈசனை அகத்தே எளிதில் சென்றுகூடலாம்.

The madmen are people who have taken the name of Brahman and still ask whether the thing they seized, and the thing that clings, is theirs. They are charged with leaving a thick disguise and taking caste difference in its place. One costume comes off, and a division is put on. If they can speak the truth of the one Siva who stood refined, they may go and join the lord whom the line calls startled. The meeting is offered as possible, and the caste-taking has just been named.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar delivers a blistering condemnation of ascetics who claim knowledge of the Supreme Brahman while harboring caste arrogance. He challenges wandering ascetics who carry the ascetic staff (தண்டு) and call themselves enlightened (பிரமமான பித்தர்): Does holding a wooden stick confer spiritual authority? You cast off one thick disguise only to don the far more poisonous delusion of caste superiority (சாதிபேதம்). If, instead of clinging to social divisiveness, you possess the spiritual courage to speak and embody the unvarnished truth of the singular, refined Shiva, you will instantly merge with the awe-inspiring Divine who shatters all worldly falsehood.

Verse 247

1சத்திநீ தயவுநீ தயங்குசங்கின் ஓசைநீ
2சித்திநீ சிவனும்நீ சிவாயமாம் எழுத்துநீ
3முத்திநீ முதலும்நீ மூவரான தேவர்நீ
4அத்திபூரம் உம்முளே அறிந்துணர்ந்து கொள்ளுமே.

பராசக்தியாகவும், அவளது கருணையாகவும், அகத்தே முழங்கும் சங்கு நாதத்தின் பிரணவ ஒலியாகவும் விளங்குவது நீயே; அஷ்டமா சித்திகளும் நீயே; சிவனும் நீயே; முக்தி தரும் 'சிவாய' மெனும் பஞ்சாட்சரமும் நீயே; பிறப்பறுக்கும் முக்தியும், ஆதி மூலமும், மும்மூர்த்திகளான தேவர்களும் நீயே. இவ்வாறு பிரபஞ்சமெங்கும் பரந்து நிற்கும் முழுமுதல் இறைவனைப் புறத்தே தேடி அலையாமல், எலும்புகளாலும் தசை நார்களாலும் ஆன இந்த உடலெனும் அத்திபூரத்திற்குள்ளேயே (அகக் கோயிலுக்குள்ளேயே) தமக்குள் அறிந்துணர்ந்து கொள்ளுங்கள் எனச் சிவவாக்கியர் ஏகத்துவ உபதேசம் செய்கிறார்.

The song says you, and keeps saying it. You are power, you are grace, and you are the voice of the sounding conch. You are attainment, you are Siva, and you are the letter that is Sivayam. You are release, you are the source, and you are the god who became the three. After that litany the last line points inward. A compound left packed in the print sits within you, and you are told to know it and realize it.

The teaching

In a magnificent, sweeping non-dual litany, Sivavakkiyar proclaims that the Divine is the sum and essence of all existence, discovered within oneself. Addressing the Supreme Reality, he declares: You are Shakti (creative energy), You are Grace, You are the celestial sound of the conch (Nada). You are spiritual attainment (Siddhi), You are Shiva, and You are the sacred letters of Sivayam. You are ultimate liberation (Mukti), You are the uncaused Source, and You are the cosmic Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra). After this cosmic declaration, the poet turns the seeker inward: realize this all-encompassing reality within the citadel of your own bodily temple (அத்திபூரம்).
