Verse 292

  1. 1Iiroliya thingalee iyangininradhu tharparam
  2. 2Eeroliiya thingalee ahdhu yaavarum arigiliir
  3. 3Kaarolip padalamum kadandhupona tharparam
  4. 4Thaarolip perumbadham eeganaadha paadhamee.

A moon of cool light is addressed, and the supreme self stood moving there. A moon of bright beauty is addressed, and no one knows it. The spelling of that second light is compressed. Beyond the screen of dark light, the supreme self has passed. The great state of garlanded light is the foot of the one Lord. Cool, bright, dark, and garlanded lights are stacked. The last word is a foot, a place to arrive.

The teaching

An esoteric exposition of subtle lunar illumination and the transcendence of illusion in Kundalini yoga. Within the subtle cranial center resides the cool, radiant moon (திங்கள் / the Soma/Chandra mandala), where the Supreme Self (தற்பரம்) abides in perpetual motion, showering the nectar of immortality. Yet worldly people, trapped in sensory darkness, remain utterly ignorant of this luminous inner moon. Sivavakkiyar declares that the Supreme Self pierces through and transcends the thick screen of cosmic darkness and ignorance (காரொளிப் படலம்). Beyond all dark veils lies the supreme abode of garlanded, dazzling effulgence—the sacred, non-dual feet of the One Primal Lord (ஏகநாத பாதம்).

Verse 293

  1. 1Kollonaadhu mellonaadhu kodhaarak kudhattadaa
  2. 2Thallonaadhu anugonaadhu aagalaan manaththulee
  3. 3Thellonaadhu theliyonaadhu sirparaththin utpayan
  4. 4Villonaadhu porulainaan vilambumaaradhu engnganee?

The verse lists failures of handling. It cannot be grasped or softened. The next words are compressed: a flawed river is thrown at the hearer with a rough command to heap it. It cannot be pushed away or taken as an atom, so the talk turns into the mind. The inner fruit of supreme consciousness cannot be cleared. The substance cannot be split open. How is the singer to declare it? Speech meets its limit here.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar confronts the absolute limits of human language, intellect, and conceptual thought in expressing the Ineffable. The ultimate Reality cannot be grasped by hands, chewed by the teeth, or digested by mortal faculties; it cannot be pushed away in rejection, nor can it be reduced to an infinitesimal point. It eludes every attempt of the mind to clarify, analyze, or neatly categorize it. How can mortal speech ever articulate or unpack that innermost fruit of Supreme Consciousness (சிற்பரத்தின் உட்பயன்), which is inherently indivisible and beyond all utterance? The Siddha humbles intellectual arrogance, declaring that the ultimate Truth can only be experienced in the sacred sanctuary of interior silence.

Verse 294

  1. 1Vaakkinaal manaththinaal madhiththagaara naththinaal
  2. 2Nokkonaadha nokkaiyunni nokkaiyaavar nokkuvaar
  3. 3Nokkonaadha nokkuvandhu nokka nokka nokkidil
  4. 4Nokkonaadha nokkuvandhu nokkaiengan nokkumee.

Speech, the mind, and a cause already valued are named first, and they miss a gaze that cannot be gazed. Who, thinking on that gaze, will look at it? If the ungazeable gaze comes and looks, look upon look, the last line asks where it then rests. Seeing turns back on seeing until there is no stand outside it. The look has to arrive, and once it has arrived it must still be asked where it went.

The teaching

A profound phenomenological and meditative inquiry into Pure Awareness. The Divine cannot be reached through the instruments of speech, the machinations of the intellect, or philosophical causation. Sivavakkiyar asks: who can look upon that unseeable Gaze (நோக்கொணாத நோக்கு) through ordinary mental perception? Yet, when that transcendent, unseeable Gaze turns upon itself—when Pure Awareness beholds Awareness in unbroken, unmediated contemplation—the subject-object duality completely collapses. The observer, the act of observing, and the observed dissolve into a seamless continuum. Where then does the Gaze look? It rests in the infinite, all-pervading radiance of its own self-luminous nature.

Verse 295

  1. 1Ullinum purambinum ulagamenganum parandhu
  2. 2Ellilenney polaninru iyanguginra embiraan
  3. 3Mellavandhu ennutpugundhu meyththavam purindhapin
  4. 4Vallalenna vallalukku vannamenna vannamee?

Inside and outside, the Lord is spread through the world, standing as oil stands in the sesame, and moving while he stands. After he comes softly, enters, and true austerity is done, the questions turn tender. What giver is the giver, and for him what color is the color? Once the entering has happened, description runs out. That running out is the praise. Nothing of title or hue is left for the mouth to trust.

The teaching

A tender, ecstatic testament to divine immanence and the grace of inner realization. Pervading the internal and external realms, spreading across all cosmic worlds, our Supreme Lord exists seamlessly within all creation, just as oil permeates every microscopic fiber of a sesame seed Yet, the cosmic wonder turns profoundly intimate: that boundless Lord entered softly into the poet's own heart, transforming his entire being through true spiritual austerity. Once this sacred communion occurs, all conceptual categories of theological description vanish. What title can you assign to this supreme Giver? What color, form, or attribute can you ascribe to the Attribute-less? Speech dissolves into blissful, reverent silence.

Verse 296

  1. 1Veedhamonru kandileen vembirappu ilaamaiyaal
  2. 2Podhamninra vadivadhaayp puvanamengum aayinaay,
  3. 3Sodhiyul oliyumaayth thuriyamodu adhiidhamaay
  4. 4Aadhimuulam aadhiyaay amaindhadhee sivaayamee.

The singer never saw a single Veda, because a burning birth is absent, the harsh rebirth those books would serve. You became the whole world as the form in which awareness stood. Light within light, the fourth state, and what lies beyond settle together. What was established as primal root and beginning is Sivayam. With that birth gone, the books have no errand. The name takes the place of origin.

The teaching

A radical declaration of spiritual independence from scriptural authority and the cessation of rebirth. Sivavakkiyar proclaims that he has no need to study the four Vedas, because through direct realization, the scorching cycle of karmic rebirth (வெம்பிறப்பு) has been entirely extinguished. When birth is ended, scriptural injunctions lose their purpose. The Divine stands revealed as pure, unbroken Wisdom (போதம்) embodying and pervading the entire cosmos. Shining as the effulgence within light (சோதியுள் ஒளி), transcending the waking, dreaming, and deep sleep states into the fourth state (Turiya) and beyond (Turiyatita), the Beginningless Root and primal source of all being is eternally established as 'Sivayam'.

Verse 297

  1. 1Saaniru madanginaal sarindhagondai thannulee
  2. 2Peeniap padhikkulee pirandhirandhu uzhaluviir,
  3. 3Thoniyaana aivaraith thurandharukka valliireel
  4. 4Kaanigandu kodiyaayk kalandhadhee sivaayamee.

A span, taken twice over, measures the inside of a topknot that has slipped. Cherishing that small abode, you wander through birth and death. The five are called a boat. If you can renounce them and cut them away, a small plot that is seen becomes a crore, and what mixes there is Sivayam. The topknot is the tiny place you protect while you keep dying. The name is the large that appears once the boat is gone.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar exposes the tragic pettiness of human identification with the physical head and body. Measuring merely two spans, people lavish attention on their sagging topknots and ornate hairstyles, fiercely protecting this tiny, fragile dwelling while wandering aimlessly through endless cycles of birth and death. The five senses and bodily organs act as a deceptive, leaking boat (தோணி). Sivavakkiyar challenges the seeker: if you can renounce attachment to these five treacherous senses and sever their hold, your narrow, fractional consciousness (காணி) instantly expands into the boundless infinite (கோடி). In that vast awakening, your individual being merges seamlessly into the immortal ocean of 'Sivayam'.
