  3. 3Mellavandhu ennutpugundhu meyththavam purindhapin
  4. 4Vallalenna vallalukku vannamenna vannamee?

Inside and outside, the Lord is spread through the world, standing as oil stands in the sesame, and moving while he stands. After he comes softly, enters, and true austerity is done, the questions turn tender. What giver is the giver, and for him what color is the color? Once the entering has happened, description runs out. That running out is the praise. Nothing of title or hue is left for the mouth to trust.

The teaching

A tender, ecstatic testament to divine immanence and the grace of inner realization. Pervading the internal and external realms, spreading across all cosmic worlds, our Supreme Lord exists seamlessly within all creation, just as oil permeates every microscopic fiber of a sesame seed Yet, the cosmic wonder turns profoundly intimate: that boundless Lord entered softly into the poet's own heart, transforming his entire being through true spiritual austerity. Once this sacred communion occurs, all conceptual categories of theological description vanish. What title can you assign to this supreme Giver? What color, form, or attribute can you ascribe to the Attribute-less? Speech dissolves into blissful, reverent silence.

Verse 296

  1. 1Veedhamonru kandileen vembirappu ilaamaiyaal
  2. 2Podhamninra vadivadhaayp puvanamengum aayinaay,
  3. 3Sodhiyul oliyumaayth thuriyamodu adhiidhamaay
  4. 4Aadhimuulam aadhiyaay amaindhadhee sivaayamee.

The singer never saw a single Veda, because a burning birth is absent, the harsh rebirth those books would serve. You became the whole world as the form in which awareness stood. Light within light, the fourth state, and what lies beyond settle together. What was established as primal root and beginning is Sivayam. With that birth gone, the books have no errand. The name takes the place of origin.

The teaching

A radical declaration of spiritual independence from scriptural authority and the cessation of rebirth. Sivavakkiyar proclaims that he has no need to study the four Vedas, because through direct realization, the scorching cycle of karmic rebirth (வெம்பிறப்பு) has been entirely extinguished. When birth is ended, scriptural injunctions lose their purpose. The Divine stands revealed as pure, unbroken Wisdom (போதம்) embodying and pervading the entire cosmos. Shining as the effulgence within light (சோதியுள் ஒளி), transcending the waking, dreaming, and deep sleep states into the fourth state (Turiya) and beyond (Turiyatita), the Beginningless Root and primal source of all being is eternally established as 'Sivayam'.

Verse 297

  1. 1Saaniru madanginaal sarindhagondai thannulee
  2. 2Peeniap padhikkulee pirandhirandhu uzhaluviir,
  3. 3Thoniyaana aivaraith thurandharukka valliireel
  4. 4Kaanigandu kodiyaayk kalandhadhee sivaayamee.

A span, taken twice over, measures the inside of a topknot that has slipped. Cherishing that small abode, you wander through birth and death. The five are called a boat. If you can renounce them and cut them away, a small plot that is seen becomes a crore, and what mixes there is Sivayam. The topknot is the tiny place you protect while you keep dying. The name is the large that appears once the boat is gone.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar exposes the tragic pettiness of human identification with the physical head and body. Measuring merely two spans, people lavish attention on their sagging topknots and ornate hairstyles, fiercely protecting this tiny, fragile dwelling while wandering aimlessly through endless cycles of birth and death. The five senses and bodily organs act as a deceptive, leaking boat (தோணி). Sivavakkiyar challenges the seeker: if you can renounce attachment to these five treacherous senses and sever their hold, your narrow, fractional consciousness (காணி) instantly expands into the boundless infinite (கோடி). In that vast awakening, your individual being merges seamlessly into the immortal ocean of 'Sivayam'.

Verse 298

  1. 1Anjugodi mandhiram anjulee adanginaal
  2. 2Nenjuguura ummulee ninaippadhor ezhuththulee
  3. 3Anjunaalu muunradhaagi ummulee adanginaal
  4. 4Anjumor ezhuththadhaay amaindhadhee sivaayamee.

Five crores of mantras shrink if they can be contained in the five. What the heart must say happens within you, in the one letter that is thought. If five, four, and three are also contained in you, they settle as the five and as that one letter. What is established is Sivayam. Crores, then five, then five, four, and three, fold into a single letter in the heart. Containing is the way the song moves.

The teaching

An esoteric condensation of the vast ocean of mantras into the singular primal sound. Religious scriptures boast of five crores of sacred mantras, yet Sivavakkiyar reveals that this astronomical multiplicity effortlessly collapses into the Five Letters (Panchakshara). What the heart must truly utter is the single seed-syllable (the Pranava / Omkara) contemplated in the stillness within. When the twenty-four tattvas (the five elements, four inner faculties, three gunas) are gathered and absorbed into the interior of consciousness, all numbers and manifold incantations resolve into that single, supreme Letter. That solitary, all-encompassing vibration stands eternally established as 'Sivayam'.

Verse 299

  1. 1Akkarandha akkaraththil utkarandha akkaram
  2. 2Sakkaraththu sivvairundu sambulath thirundhadhum
  3. 3Elgarandha enneypol evvezhuththum embiraan
  4. 4Ulgarandhu ninraneermai yaavargaana vallaree.

A letter lies hidden in the letter that was already hidden. In a wheel a bitter little fruit rolls, and something lies in a round basket. That middle line is compressed, a harsh small thing in a turning and a container. Then the clear likeness returns. As oil is hidden in the sesame, every letter is our Lord. The straight truth stood hidden inside. Who can see it? Sight fails because he is held the way oil is held in the seed.

The teaching

The concluding verse of this decad is a profound meditation on the nested concealment of the Divine within sacred sound and physical reality. Just as a subtle seed-letter lies hidden within an outer letter, and a deeper esoteric vibration lies concealed within that inner letter—and just as sesame oil resides invisibly throughout the sesame seed—so does our Supreme Lord dwell secretly within every syllable of speech and every particle of creation. Sivavakkiyar closes with a poignant mystical question: when the Divine hides Himself so intimately and directly within the very fabric of existence, who possesses the subtle, enlightened vision to behold this unvarnished Truth? Only the seeker whose inner eye has been opened by grace can perceive the Lord shining within all names and forms.

Verse 300

  1. 1Aagamaththin utporul agandamuulam aadhalaal
  2. 2Thaagapoga minriyee thariththadhar paramumnii
  3. 3Eegapaadham vaiththanai unarththum anjezhuththulee
  4. 4Eegapogam aagiyee irundhadhee sivaayamee.

This verse folds the written Agama into a name. Its inner matter is the undivided root, and the one addressed is the supreme that bears that root without craving and without enjoyment. Inside the five letters that make the truth known, a single foot is set down. What then remains, as the one enjoyment, is Sivayam. The song is showing you where the book ends and the name begins.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar reveals that the true essence of all Agamic scriptures is not external temple liturgy, caste rituals, or textual dogma, but the indivisible, limitless root-source (அகண்டமூலம்) of consciousness. The seeker does not need to chase worldly pleasures (போகம்) or burn with thirst (தாகம்) for transient rewards. Instead, the transcendent Reality (தற்பரம்) is experienced within oneself when the mind establishes singular, unmoving stillness (ஏகபாதம்)—the unshakeable ascent of consciousness along the central spinal column (Sushumna). When this one-pointed awareness is anchored in the esoteric Five Letters (Panchakshara / சிவாய), all fragmented worldly experiences dissolve into a unified, non-dual ecstasy of being (ஏகபோகம்). In this Advaitic culmination, all external religious systems collapse into the self-luminous reality of Shiva alone.
