The crown has been seen and the eyes have been bound, and the line asks where the truth was seen. If the human being is mixed into the upstairs house, even the gate that has become leftover food, the எச்சில் the purity rules recoil from, will turn into the one enjoyment. Green Mal and Isan are named together, and what spread from them is Sivayama. The defiled gate and the two gods are brought to the same name.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar urges embodied souls to awaken and directly perceive the cranial gateway (கபால வாசல் / Brahmarandhra) instead of lingering in spiritual slumber. Consuming the cascading lunar nectar of immortality (அமுது நீர்), all mental turbulence, emotional agitations, and bodily cravings subside into deep serenity. Those blessed mystics who behold the primordial, boundless Void (பண்டுகண்ட பாழ்வெளி) and the all-pervading Supreme Light dwell forever at the sacred, liberating feet of Shiva (கழலடிக்கண்). They achieve the deathless state of timeless communion, beyond all fear of rebirth.

Verse 390

  1. 1Vaayilittu nallurisai atsarath tholiyilee
  2. 2Koyilittu vaaviyum angombilee ularndhadhum
  3. 3Aayilitta kaayamum anaadhiyitta siivanum
  4. 4Vaayuvitta vanniyum valarndhadhee sivaayamee.

A good song is placed in the mouth, in a compressed phrase that joins the syllable to a hide or a sound. A tank is set at the temple, and something dries on that branch. A body has ஆய் placed in it, a life has the beginningless placed in it, and a fire has the wind placed in it. What grew from all these placings is Sivayama. Mouth, temple, body, life, wind, and fire are the soil the name grows in.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar contrasts mere external religious practice with internal realization. Chanting pious hymns with the vocal mouth is only external noise unless rooted in the subtle vibration of the sacred syllables. Constructing brick temple edifices and digging ceremonial bathing tanks (கோயில், வாவி) is futile; like water placed in an unbaked pot on an exposed branch, these external monuments dry up and crumble with time. The delicate physical body formed in the womb is mortal, but the soul within is beginningless (அனாதி). When the inner fire (வன்னி / Kundalini) is fanned by the regulated vital breath (வாயு / Vasi), consciousness expands and matures into the all-encompassing reality of Sivayanama. The true temple is the living body where the internal flame burns.

Verse 391

  1. 1Atsaraththai uchchariththu anaadhiyangi muulamaay
  2. 2Atsaraththai yumdhirandhu agoramittu alarndhadhum
  3. 3Matsaraththil utkaram agappadak kadandhapin
  4. 4Atsaraththil aadhiyodu amarndhadhee sivaayamee.

The syllable is uttered, with the beginningless flame as its root. The syllable is opened as well, and it blooms when the fierce one is set there. An inner hand in the earth-syllable, the line's play on the word for syllable, is crossed so as to be held inside. In the syllable, seated with the beginning, is Sivayama. Uttering, opening, and sitting are all done inside the letter.

The teaching

Silently vibrating the sacred syllable, with the beginningless primordial fire (அனாதி அங்கி) as its root power, the Siddha embarks on the inner sacrifice. Unlocking the hidden esoteric dimensions of the letter, consciousness blossoms in all its fullness when the fierce non-dual energy of Aghora is invoked to dissolve dualistic fears. Transcending the illusions of the mortal vessel and crossing past internal psychic limitations, the yogi arrives at the core of being. Within the supreme imperishable letter, seated in inseparable unity with the primordial Origin (ஆதி), the sacred truth of Sivayanama reigns in timeless majesty.

Verse 392

  1. 1Koyilum kulangalum kuriyinir kurukkalaay

Temples, tanks, and the mark where priests stand are where the mind goes astray, and so do illusion and the lap. The address is direct: you are bewildered there. If Ayan and Aran are known and taken in, the result is like oneself seated with mother and with father. The public places of worship are the scene of confusion, and the family seat is the likeness of real knowing.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar delivers a devastating critique of orthodox religion, priestcraft, and external idol worship. Blind seekers wander between brick temples, bathing tanks, and sectarian caste marks, completely bewildered by greedy priests (குருக்கள்) and deceptive doctrines. They waste their mortal lives in delusion and spiritual lethargy. If one could truly understand and intuitively realize the inner unity of Ayan (Vishnu / the preserver) and Aran (Shiva / the destroyer)—recognizing that Hari and Hara are one non-dual reality within consciousness—such an awakened seeker rests in profound, intimate peace, like a beloved child securely seated in the loving embrace of both Mother and Father. External shrines become utterly superfluous when the Divine Parents reside within the heart.

Verse 393

Temple, tank, light, wind, and Siva are each asked whether they are already one, and the life that searched is asked the same, together with whatever sat and gave help. The questions walk through the places and forces people treat as separate sites. At the end, the people who have known this body become the vision itself, and they are told to look. Knowing the body is the seeing the questions were pressing toward.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar exposes the absurdity of sectarian boundaries and sacred geography. Is not the cosmic temple essentially One everywhere? Is not water identically the same across all temple tanks, streams, and oceans? Are not fire (தேயு) and wind (வாயு) universal elements operating uniformly across the universe? And is not Shiva—the supreme consciousness—identically One within all? Is not the discerning soul pervasive and identical in all beings? Those enlightened masters who realize the profound truth of this physical body (காயம்) as the true living cosmos transcend all ritualistic divisions; they become the very vision of divine reality (காட்சி), seeing the One in all and all in the One.

Verse 394

Ear, eyes, nose, and mouth are asked if what was mixed of them is one. What was lifted after the light was set, and the five pleasures, are asked if they are one. The treatise that was recited and stored, and what arose, are asked if they are one. Then the people who have known the house of sound will become the lords of sound. Senses, pleasures, and the stored book are all brought under the sound's house.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar points to the fundamental unity of human biology and consciousness. Do not the ears, eyes, nose, and mouth function through the exact same conscious life-force in every human being, regardless of caste or creed? Is not the inner spark of light that enlivens the five sensory pleasures identical in all people? Did not all scriptures and holy treatises (சாத்திரம்) originate from that very same singular source of human consciousness? Those rare, illumined souls who realize the inner mansion of primal sound (நாத வீடு / the subtlest realm of unstruck resonance) become sovereign Masters (நாதர்). They do not serve outward dogmas; they embody the supreme reality itself.
