Breath stays in the heart and runs with a pressure. Love is the way of sitting with it and keeping it near, if you can. Then a temple of lovers can be seen within the eight directions as they open. The last line breaks into a cry: run, bee, and say it, lord. The temple is not entered by leaving the heart. Saying is demanded because the sight still has to be told.

The teaching

A masterclass in Vasi yoga fused with ecstatic divine love (பக்தி). In the heart center (அனாகதம்), the prana surges with restless force and tension (நெருக்கி ஓடும் வாயு). Sivavakkiyar teaches that breath control in Siddha yoga is not a violent suppression, but an act of tender, loving intimacy (அன்பினால் இருந்து அருகிருத்த வல்லீரேல்)—gently pacifying and retaining the vital air in the heart. When the breath is thus stabilized in devotion, the practitioner perceives the sacred 'temple of lovers' (அன்பர் கோயில்) expanding infinitely across all directions. The mind, like a honeybee (தும்பி), intoxicated by the inner nectar of amrita, flies freely, communing directly with the indwelling Lord.

Verse 89

  1. 1Thillaiyai vanangininra thendanitta vaayuvee
  2. 2Ellaiyaik kadandhuninra eegapoga maaygaiyee
  3. 3Ellaiyaik kadandhuninra sorkkaloga veliyilee
  4. 4Vellaiyum sivappumaagi meygalandhu ninradhee.

The breath stood bowing to Tillai and made the full prostration. It is also the illusion of a single enjoyment, standing beyond the limit. Beyond the limit again, in the open of the heaven-world, it becomes white and red and stands mixed into the body. Heaven here is not a departure from the body. White and red are the colors of that mixing. The bow and the mixing are the same breath.

The teaching

An esoteric revelation of Kundalini culmination and the alchemy of immortal embodiment. The vital prana (வாயு), having surrendered completely at the altar of the heart-space (தில்லை), crosses every mortal boundary into the realm of undivided spiritual bliss (ஏகபோகம்). In the expansive heaven of the Sahasrara (சொர்க்கலோக வெளி), the yogi achieves the mystical union of the 'White' (the cool lunar nectar of Shiva / Bindu) and the 'Red' (the fiery solar energy of Shakti / Rajas). This divine fusion does not vaporize into a disembodied void; rather, it permeates the physical flesh (மெய்கலந்து நின்றது), transmuting the mortal biological vessel into a divinized, immortal Siddha body.

Verse 90

  1. 1Udambuuyir eduththadho, uyirudambu eduththadho

  3. 3Udambuuyir irandhapodhu uyirirappadhu illaiyee
  4. 4Udambumey marandhugandu unarndhugnaanam odhumee.

Did the body take the life, or did the life take the body? When the taking happened, what form was there to report? When body and life are said to have died, the life does not die. The last line is compressed: forgetting the body's truth, seeing and knowing, knowledge itself recites. The riddle refuses an owner between body and life, then refuses death as something the life undergoes.

The teaching

A penetrating ontological interrogation of embodiment and the immortality of the Soul. Sivavakkiyar challenges the foundational assumptions of human identity: which came first—the physical vessel or the animating life-force (உயிர்)? At the moment of conception, before organs and limbs coagulated, what recognizable shape did this union possess? While society laments the "death of body and life," Sivavakkiyar declares the absolute immortality of the Atman: the physical frame dissolves, but the life-spirit is indestructible and eternal When the seeker abandons the false identification with the mortal flesh (உடம்பு மெய் மறந்து), authentic transcendental wisdom (ஞானம்) awakens, speaking from the eternal ground of pure awareness.

Three letters are given deeds, addressed to a you who did them. By a, you made seven boundless worlds. By u, you stood wearing a form. By ma, the world was bewildered. Then a, u, and ma are the manner of sitting, and what sits that way is Sivaya. The name is the sitting of the same three that made, wore form, and confused. The world's bewilderment is part of the name, not a mistake beside it.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar reveals the cosmic architecture of the sacred syllable AUM (Pranava) and its non-dual identity with the Panchakshara (சிவாய). 'A' (Akara) is the creative surge of Brahma that projects the seven cosmic planes; 'U' (Ukara) is the sustaining power of Vishnu that bestows tangible form and structure; 'M' (Makara) is the veil of Rudra that conceals absolute reality, causing the world to wander in the necessary spell of cosmic illusion (மாயை). These three cosmological functions are not disparate deities or arbitrary sounds; they are the tripartite expression of the single supreme Absolute (Sivayam). To understand the Pranava is to understand that the entire play of creation, preservation, and cosmic enchantment rests as the living seat of Shiva.

Verse 92

  2. 2மந்திரங்கள் ஆவதும் மறத்தில்ஊறல் அன்றுகாண்;

  4. 4Mandhiraththai undavarkku maranameedhum illaiyee!

People eat mantras and stay confused, and they are called human with no flattery. What a mantra becomes is not a seep inside forgetfulness. What a mantra is, is the breath that rose in the mind's heat. For the one who has eaten the mantra, death is nothing. Swallowing formulas and consuming the breath are two meals. Only the second cancels death.

The teaching

A revolutionary Siddha redefinition of 'mantra'. Sivavakkiyar mocks the common religious practice of mechanically mumbling scriptural chants, which only leaves human beings bewildered and spiritually intoxicated without producing inner transformation. A real mantra is not an external string of syllables leaking into subconscious slumber. In esoteric Siddha science, the true mantra is the life-breath itself (வாயு) ignited by intense spiritual willpower and drawn up through the central channel like a blazing column of fire. To 'consume' the mantra means to internalize, tame, and integrate this awakened prana into every fiber of one's being; the adept who masters this living breath conquers mortality itself and attains the deathless state

Verse 93

What can he call a thing that has no grammar and no mark a treatise could fix? The pure Tamil he is speaking has words, and this is a quality that has already crossed the word. Lightning draws back into its cloud and so becomes the flash. Inside him the lord is there and he is there, and aside from those two there is nothing. The inside has room for two and for no third.

The teaching

A sublime pinnacle of mystical poetry and Advaitic absorption. Sivavakkiyar confronts the ultimate limitation of human language: the Absolute possesses no defining characteristics, gender, form, or grammar (இலக்கணம் இலாதது). Even the most refined classical Tamil (செந்தமிழ்) falls silent before this wordless splendor. The Siddha offers the stunning metaphor of lightning: just as a bolt of lightning flashes from the cloud and withdraws into the thundercloud, merging into its luminous essence, so too the individual soul dissolves into the Divine. In the secret cavern of the heart (என்னகத்துள்), all cosmic multiplicity, dogmas, and third parties vanish; only the intimacy of the indwelling Lord and the awakened Self remains in unbroken, non-dual communion.
