சாத்திர விதிகளையும் மதச் சடங்குகளையும் வகுத்துரைக்கும் பண்டிதர்களை சிவவாக்கியர் நேரடி ஆன்ம வினாக்களால் அறைகூவி அழைக்கிறார். சீவனின் உள்ளுணர்வு தோன்றி உதிக்கும் இடம் எது? அது பிரபஞ்ச மௌனத்தில் ஒடுங்கும் இடம் எது? வாழ்வின் இயக்க விசை எங்கே நிலைகொள்கிறது? விழிப்பு நீங்கி ஆழ்ந்த உறக்கம் எங்கே நிகழ்கிறது? உண்மையை அறியும் மதி (ஞானம்) எங்கே இருக்கிறது? அறியாமையைத் தரும் மதிமயக்கம் எங்கே உதிக்கிறது? சமய நூல்களை வைத்துக்கொண்டு உலகத்தாருக்கு விதிகளைப் போதிக்கும் வேதாந்தப் பண்டிதர்களே, இந்த உள்ளுணர்வின் நிலைகளையும் மனதின் இயக்க ரகசியங்களையும் உங்களால் அனுபவபூர்வமாய் விரித்துரைக்க முடியுமா? வெற்று நூலறிவு மெய்யறிவாகாது; அகத்தில் மனதின் தோற்ற ஒடுக்கங்களை உணர்வதே உண்மை ஞானமாகும்.

Rising, shrinking, going, the sleep of the eyes, regard, and the confusion of the moon are each asked where they are. The singer does not supply the places. He turns the list on the knowers who are able to lay a rule, and he tells them they must explain it at full length. Anyone who claims to ordain these states is told to speak them out, point by point.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar directly confronts dogmatic scholars and scripture-ordained philosophers (விதிக்கவல்ல ஞானிகள்) who claim the authority to dictate spiritual rules, challenging them to explain the inner mechanics of consciousness. Where is the exact locus where awareness arises (உதிப்பது), and where does it dissolve back into silence (ஒடுங்குவது)? Where does the vital impulse of cosmic life (கதி) reside, and where does the mysterious sleep of the eyes (கண்ணுறக்கம் / deep sleep) occur? Where does intellectual discernment (மதி) stand, and where does mental delusion (மதிமயக்கம்) originate? Sivavakkiyar exposes the inadequacy of bookish dogma, demanding that those who claim spiritual mastery demonstrate direct experiential understanding of the mind's subtle states rather than parroting empty theological formulas.

1திரும்பியாடு வாசல்எட்டு திறம்உரைத்த வாசல்எட்டு,
2மருங்கிலாத கோலம்எட்டு வன்னியாடு வாசல்எட்டு,
3துரும்பிலாத கோலம்எட்டு சுற்றிவந்த மருளரே!
4அரும்பிலாத பூவும்உண்டு ஐயன்ஆணை உண்மையே!

புற எந்திரங்களையும் மந்திரக் கோலங்களையும் வரைந்து, கோயில்களைச் சுற்றிச் சுற்றி வரும் மூடர்களை சிவவாக்கியர் தட்டியெழுப்புகிறார். எட்டுவித பிராண வாசல்கள், எட்டுவித யோக நிலைகள், அக்னி சுடரும் எட்டு வழிகள், எண்கோண எந்திரங்கள் எனப் புறச் சடங்குகளிலும் வரைபடங்களிலும் சிக்குண்டு வாழ்க்கையை வீணே சுழன்று கழிக்கும் மருளர்களே! நீங்கள் தேடும் உண்மை புறத்தில் இல்லை. அரும்பாகத் தோன்றி மலராமல், பிறப்பு இறப்பற்ற நித்திய நிலையாய் கபால உச்சியில் தானே மலர்ந்து மணக்கும் சகஸ்ராரத் தாமரை என்னும் 'அரும்பிலாத பூ' ஒன்று உடலின் அகத்தே உண்டு! பரமசிவனின் ஆணைப்படி இதுவே அறுதியான உண்மை; புறச் சுற்றுகளை விடுத்து அந்த அக மலரைத் தரிசியுங்கள்.

Eight is repeated until it dizzies. Eight doors where the dance turns, eight doors whose nature was spoken, eight forms with no side, eight doors where fire dances, eight forms without so much as a straw. The people who come circling these eights are called the bewildered. Against all that counting the singer sets one flower that never budded. By the father's command, he says, that is the truth.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar addresses the bewildered ritualists (சுற்றிவந்த மருளரே) who exhaust their lives circling external mandalas, geometric yantras, and temple corridors. Occult traditions map out eight revolving gateways of breath, eight explained portals, eight boundary-less forms, eight doors where the sacrificial fire dances, and eight subtle geometric figures. Worldly seekers spin endlessly in these outward rites and diagrams. Yet Sivavakkiyar cuts through all occult complexity to proclaim the ultimate esoteric truth, sealed by the Divine Father's unassailable command (ஐயன் ஆணை): there exists an unmanifest, divine Flower that blooms eternally without ever budding (அரும்பிலாத பூ)—the thousand-petaled Sahasrara lotus of pure spiritual illumination! True realization is not found in circling outward diagrams, but in awakening this self-existent flower of divine consciousness within.

1தானிருந்து மூலஅங்கி தணல்எழுப்பி வாயுவால்
2தேனிருந்து அறைதிறந்து தித்திஒன்று ஒத்ததே
3வானிருந்து மதியமூன்று தண்டலம் புகுந்தபின்
4ஊனிருந்து அளவுகொண்ட யோகிநல்ல யோகியே!

வாசி யோகத்தின் வழி மூலாதாரக் கனலை எழுப்பி கபால அமுதத்தைப் பருகும் காயசித்தி ரகசியத்தை சிவவாக்கியர் நேரடியாகப் பகர்கிறார். தகுந்த ஆசனத்தில் அமர்ந்து, பிராண வாயுவை உலையாகக் கொண்டு மூலாதாரத்தில் உறங்கும் மூல அக்னியைத் தணலாக மூட்டி எழுப்ப வேண்டும். அக்குண்டலினித் தீயானது சுழுமுனைத் தண்டின் வழியே கபால உச்சியை அடையும்போது, அங்கே பூட்டப்பட்ட அமுத அறை திறந்துகொள்கிறது; தித்திக்கும் தெய்வீக அமுதத் தேன் பெருக்கெடுத்து உடல் முழுதும் பரவுகிறது. சந்திர மண்டலத்தின் அமுத தாரை சுழுமுனை நரம்பில் பாய்ந்து உடலைத் தங்கமாக மாற்றுகிறது. ஊன் உடம்பில் இருந்துகொண்டே இத்தகைய யோக ரசவாதத்தை அனுபவித்து நிலைநிறுத்தும் யோகியே சிவவாக்கியர் போற்றும் தலைசிறந்த நல்யோகியாவான்.

A yogi is described from the inside. He sits, and by the wind he raises flame from the fire at the root. Honey is there, a chamber opens, and one sweetness matches. From the sky, three moons enter the circle of the staff. The printed தண்டலம் is compressed, a region or a circle joined to the staff. The yogi who stayed in the flesh and took the measure of this is called the good yogi.

The teaching

A magnificent, direct revelation of Vasi and Kundalini yoga and the nectar of immortality (அமிர்த தாரை / சோமபானம்). Seated in steady posture (தானிருந்து), the yogi kindles the dormant primal fire at the base of the spine (மூல அங்கி / Muladhara Agni) using the rhythmic life-breath as a bellows. As the fiery Kundalini ascends through the spinal column (தண்டலம் / Meru danda), the sealed chamber of the cranial vault unlocks (அறை திறந்து). Instantly, the divine lunar honey (தேன் / amrita) descends, flooding the organism with unearthly sweetness. When the luminous nectar of the triple moon (the mystic lunar phases of Sahasrara) saturates the central channel, the mortal vessel is divinized. The yogi who, while remaining inside this physical body of flesh (ஊனிருந்து), measures, experiences, and stabilizes this sacred alchemy is hailed by Sivavakkiyar as the true and perfect Yogi (நல்ல யோகி).

Verse 180

1முத்தனாய் நினைந்தபோது முடிந்தஅண்டத் துச்சிமேல்
2பத்தனாரும் அம்மையும் பரிந்துஆடல் ஆடினார்,
3சித்தரான ஞானிகள், தில்லைஆடல் என்பீர்காள்!
4அத்தன்ஆடல் உற்றபோது அடங்கல்ஆடல் உற்றவே.

தில்லை நடராஜப் பெருமானின் ஆனந்தத் தாண்டவத்தை சிவவாக்கியர் யோக அனுபவமாய் அகத்தினுள்ளேயே தரிசிக்கிறார். ஆன்மாவானது தன்னுள் மல நீக்கம் பெற்று முத்தனாகத் தன்னை உணரும் உச்சக் கணத்தில், பிரபஞ்சத்தின் எல்லையாகிய கபால உச்சிச் சகஸ்ராரத்தில் சிவபெருமானும் உமையம்மையும் பேரன்போடு கூடித் தாண்டவமாடுகின்றனர். மெய்ஞ்ஞானச் சித்தர்கள் போற்றிப் புகழும் உண்மையான தில்லைக் கூத்து என்பது புறத்தில் உள்ள சிதம்பரம் அல்ல; அது சிரசின் உச்சியில் நிகழும் இந்த சிவசக்தி ஐக்கிய நடனமேயாகும். அகத்திலே அப்பனின் திருக்கூத்து நிகழத் தொடங்கிவிட்டால், உலக மாயைகளும் சகல தத்துவ இயக்கங்களும் அடங்கி ஒடுங்கி, பேரின்ப அமைதி ஒன்றே மிஞ்சி நிற்கும்.

When the liberated one is held in mind, devotees and the Mother dance on the crown of the finished universe, melting as they dance. Knowers who are siddhas are told that they name this the dance of Tillai. The singer answers with a different dance. When the Father's dance occurs, what occurs is the dance of coming to rest. The public name Tillai is met by inward subsiding.

The teaching

A breathtaking internalization of Nataraja's cosmic dance (தில்லை நடனம் / ஆனந்த தாண்டவம்). When the seeker contemplates the Lord in the pristine state of liberation (முத்தனாய்), upon the summit of the transcendent universe (the Sahasrara atop the microcosm), the Divine Mother and pure consciousness dance in ecstatic, melting union. While external ritualists and even some Siddha scholars identify this merely with the historical shrine of Tillai (Chidambaram), Sivavakkiyar reveals the supreme esoteric truth: when the Supreme Father dances within (அத்தன் ஆடல்), it is not an outward spectacle, but the Dance of Complete Dissolution and Rest (அடங்கல் ஆடல் / லயம் / சமாதி)! In this sacred stillness, all mental modifications, desires, and ego-constructs completely subside and merge into eternal peace.

Verse 181

1ஒன்றும் ஒன்றும் ஒன்றுமே உலகனைத்தும் ஒன்றுமே
2அன்றும்இன்றும் ஒன்றுமே அனாதியானது ஒன்றுமே
3கன்றல்நின்ற செம்பொனைக் களிம்பறுத்து நாட்டினால்
4அன்றுதெய்வம் உம்முளே அரிந்ததே சிவாயமே.

ஆழ்ந்த கருத்துரை

அத்வைத ஏகத்துவத்தின் பரம ரகசியத்தையும் ஆன்ம சுத்தியையும் சிவவாக்கியர் இப்பாடலில் பிரகடனம் செய்கிறார். ஒன்றுடன் ஒன்று சேர்ந்தாலும் அந்த ஏகப் பரம்பொருள் ஒன்றே; உலகங்கள் அனைத்துமாய் விரிந்து நிற்பதும் ஒன்றே; இறந்த காலம், நிகழ்காலம், அனாதியான உண்மை என எல்லாமும் அந்த ஒருமையே ஆகும்! பேதங்கள் யாவும் அஞ்ஞானத்தால் தோன்றுபவை. ஆணவ மலக் களிம்பு படிந்து நிறம் மங்கிய செம்பைப் போன்ற இந்த ஜீவனை, தவம் என்னும் யோக அக்னியால் களிம்பறுத்துத் தூய தங்கமாக மாற்றினால், அந்நாளிலேயே வாழும் தெய்வம் தமக்குள் இருப்பதை உணரலாம். அவ்வாறு அகத்தில் சுடர்விட்டுப் பிரகாசிக்கும் பரம்பொருளே நித்தியமான 'சிவாயம்' ஆகும்.

One is said four ways. One and one and only one, the whole world only one, yesterday and today only one, the beginningless only one. Then a piece of work is named. Take the red gold that stands in the state the line calls கன்றல், cut the verdigris off it, and set it. On that day the deity inside you is known, and what is known is Sivayam. Oneness and the cleaned gold are one teaching.

The teaching

The absolute declaration of Advaitic non-duality (ஏகத்துவம் / அத்வைதம்) and spiritual alchemy. One and one is only One; the entire manifest universe is only One; past, present, and eternity are only One; the beginningless Reality is only One! Multiplicity is merely an illusion born of ignorance. Sivavakkiyar explains how to realize this truth: take the tarnished metal of the embodied soul (the red gold obscured by the crust of anava mala), purge the verdigris of ego through rigorous yogic discipline (களிம்பறுத்து), and establish it firmly in pure awareness. On that very day, the living God is directly recognized within one's own heart (அன்று தெய்வம் உம்முளே அறிந்ததே)—and that indwelling Divine is realized to be none other than the eternal resonance: Sivayam!

1நட்டதா வரங்களும் நவின்ற சாத்திரங்களும்
2இட்டமானது ஓமகுண்டம் இசைந்தநாலு வேதமும்
3கட்டிவைத்த புத்தகம் கடும்பிதற்று இதற்கெலாம்
4பொட்டதாய் முடிந்ததே பிரானையான் அறியவே.

அகத்தே இறைவனை நேருக்கு நேராக உணர்ந்த ஞான அனுபவத்தில் புறச் சடங்குகளும் வேத சாத்திரங்களும் முற்றிலும் பயனற்றுப் போவதை சிவவாக்கியர் வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார். பூங்காவனங்கள் அமைப்பதும், ஓதிப் புகழும் சாத்திரங்களும், நெய் ஊற்றி வளர்க்கும் வேள்வி ஓமகுண்டங்களும், நால்வேத பாராயணங்களும், கட்டிப் பாதுகாத்து வைக்கப்பட்ட சுவடிப் புத்தகங்களும், மதவாதிகள் செய்யும் கடும் பிதற்றல்களும் ஆகிய இவையனைத்தும், என் உள்ளுக்குள் உறையும் எம்பெருமானை நான் மெய்யறிவால் உணர்ந்த அந்த கணத்திலேயே பதராய் (பொட்டாய்) ஒன்றுமில்லாமல் வீணாய்ப் போயின. அகத்தில் சூரியன் உதித்த பிறகு சிற்றகலின் வெளிச்சம் தேவையில்லை என்பது போல, அனுபூதி கைவந்த பின் புறச் சடங்குகள் யாவும் அர்த்தமற்றவையாகி விடுகின்றன.

Planted growing things, recited treatises, the offering pit of the homa, the four Vedas that were chanted, the book tied up and stored, and harsh babble are piled in one heap. The printed நட்டதா வரங்களும் is spaced through the middle of the word for planted growth. For all of this the end is the same. It finished as an empty thing once the Lord was known. Learning and rite close when that knowing arrives.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar delivers an uncompromising declaration of the total transcendence of scriptures, fire sacrifices, and religious paraphernalia upon attaining direct Self-realization. Cultivated gardens, chanted treatises (சாத்திரங்கள்), carefully constructed fire-sacrifice pits (ஹோமகுண்டம்), the musical recitation of the four Vedas, sacred palm-leaf manuscripts tied up and revered, and the aggressive babble of theological disputations—all of them collapsed and turned into completely hollow, barren, empty chaff (பொட்டதாய் முடிந்ததே) the moment I directly realized the indwelling Lord! When the radiant sun of experiential gnosis (அனுபூதி / பிரானை யான் அறியவே) dawns in consciousness, the flickering lamps of external rites, scriptures, and scholastic debate become completely obsolete.
