The search is a circle, and the singer admits he ran it. Where, inside himself, did he run while looking for himself? The running had a cause: he did not know himself in the place where he already was. After that knowing arrives and turns into clear sight, the circle closes the other way. Inside him, other than himself, there is not one thing. The verse sends no one to a shrine. It ends the hunt by finding that the hunter was the country he was searching.

The teaching

The Siddha dismantles the triple pillars of orthodox religious delusion: mechanical ritualism, sectarian theatricality, and divisive dogma. What purpose is served by repetitive outward pujas (பரிவு செய்த பூசை) and elaborate sacred disguises (வேஷம்)—robes, ash, and beads—which only feed spiritual vanity? Why do scholars endlessly babble, erecting rigid caste barriers and sectarian schisms (பிரிவு செய்த பேதம்) in the name of God? Sivavakkiyar turns the mind toward the only attainment that matters: knowing the Pure Consciousness that knows (அறிவறிந்த நன்மை). This awareness is beginningless (அனாதி), unconditioned, and free from all artificial social classifications and ritualistic pretense.

Verse 262

Lightning leaves the sky and sinks back, and that flash figures a Lord who is thought of while already standing inside. The next figure is the eye. What appears in the eye comes from the eye, and the printed phrase says the eye has no knowing of its own. That phrase is compressed. Even the self that stood within, the speaker has not known. Nearness and recognition come apart, the way a flash is gone as soon as it is seen.

The teaching

A sublime esoteric exposition of subtle pranic anatomy and Kundalini awakening. The beginningless central nadi (மூலநாடி / Sushumna) courses through the living temple of the body. Within its subtle depths, the supreme divine Mother-consciousness, Manonmani, shines as an unwavering lamp, kindled by the sacred fire of regulated breath (வாசியான வன்னி). Instead of dissipating vital life-force through the two restless outward gateways (the Ida and Pingala nostrils), the adept channels the dual breath into the central channel, where it pours down as a downpour of immortal nectar (மாரி). Sivavakkiyar asks: when the soul awakens from the deep, hypnotic dream of mortal worldliness (கனா விழித்த போது), what magnificent, incomparable vision unfolds? It is the blinding, pristine revelation of the Self as Pure Effulgence.

Verse 263

Love will not stay held down. Even restrained, it cannot be restrained, and it passes through the open court. The same pair of words returns, and this time the unrestrainable thing is love inside the speaker. Posture does not interrupt it. Lying down, sitting, or living with affliction that has come to stay, the conch of nada keeps sounding. It sounds while one walks, and it leaves no gap. The divine here is a sound that does not take a break for the body's arrangements or for pain.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar conducts a penetrating inquiry into authentic spiritual attainment versus illusory pretensions. What is genuine mystical vision (காட்சி)? It is not seeing psychic apparitions, but resting completely immaculate and free from all mental blemishes (களங்கமற்று நின்றதோ). What is true majesty (மாட்சி)? It is the power that shatters the encircling snare of cosmic illusion (மாயை), rather than worldly dominion. What is authentic spiritual sovereignty (ஆட்சி)? It is resting in experiential wisdom that transcends rote verbal explanations. And what is the supreme esoteric secret (சூட்சி)? It is the sacred alchemical union wherein the three inner luminaries—the fires of the Sun, the Moon, and Agni within the subtle channels—merge into the single, blazing effulgence of non-dual Reality.

Verse 264

Cool tulasi drifts in nectar, hangs as an ornament, and comes with the anklet of water. The next line is compressed: a fall from release, a going in thirst, then sky, earth, and the open. Eight and two are the numbers through which sweetness binds the mind. What that binding sets down has no house, and the song calls it the bliss of love. Adornment, thirst, and number are heaped, and several joints of the print are tight.

The teaching

The Siddha issues a profound spiritual challenge concerning the ultimate threshold of liberation. When all conceptual dualities collapse into the stillness of Oneness (ஒன்றதாகி நின்றபோது), can the ordinary thinking mind penetrate that unthinkable, transcendent Reality (உன்னொணாத வஸ்து)? Can the seeker conquer the dense, accumulated fortress of cosmic delusion (திரண்டெழுந்த மாயை) and return unscathed? Can they awaken and withstand the blazing fire of Kundalini (விளைந்தெழுந்த வன்னி) as it surges through the subtle spine? Sivavakkiyar asks who among mortals possesses the spiritual fortitude to behold that primordial Truth which existed before the dawn of creation and will remain when all worlds dissolve.

Verse 265

  1. 1Eegamuththi muunru muththi naalumuththi nanmaiseer
  2. 2Pogamutri punniyaththil muththianri muththiyaay

  4. 4Yaagamutri aagininra thengolaadhi theevanee.

Liberation is counted: one, then three, then four, with good joined to the count. Enjoyment comes to fullness inside merit, and the line calls this both other than liberation and liberation itself. A serpent-couch is complete. A fire has crossed the sea of good, and across the break that fire joins the completed rite. The closing name is compressed. It may address the primal God, or ask which lord this is. Old pictures of release stand as one presence.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar explores the radical experience of dissolution into the Great Void (பாழ் / Sunyata / the Boundless Open). What is that immaculate vision first perceived when consciousness is liberated from stain? When the seeker re-encounters that primordial, uncreated state, all egoic identity and mental fabrications dissolve completely into luminous emptiness (பாழதாகி நின்றதோ). Once this boundless state is realized, where is the separation or distance between the soul and God? And what significance can possibly remain in religious uniforms, caste insignia, or theatrical devotional posturing (கொண்டுகொண்ட கோலம்)? When the individual self merges into the infinite expanse of Consciousness, all external markers vanish into absolute irrelevance.

Verse 266

Numbers arrive in a rush: three and thirty, with six, three and three, then three liberations and threes until the line is all mystery. A light appears, spoken of as three mothers and as a lamp without glare. The last line is compressed at the start. It most naturally says our Lord entered inside the tongue, and asks what form that entering has. The surface is a count of letters and states. The subject is the one who got into speech.

The teaching

A rhythmic, mystical synthesis of Saiva Siddhanta cosmology and internal divine speech. The thirty-six fundamental principles of reality (tattvas) replicated across the three cosmic planes, the classic Trinity of creator, preserver, and dissolver, the nine stages of spiritual fruition, and the three primordial Mother-powers (Iccha, Kriya, and Jnana Shaktis) all unite as a single, indivisible flame of consciousness (சுடர்). Sivavakkiyar reveals that this entire vast architecture of cosmos and scripture finds its living culmination when our peerless Lord takes up residence within the seeker's own speech. When the divine enters the tongue, the adept's mortal voice is transformed into the direct, unmediated utterance of eternal Truth.
