Manhood is shouted five times, and the people who shout it are called fools. The verse then runs a rhyme away from that shout: seeing, then song, then modesty. A debater's form that consists of sight lasts through age after age. It becomes the quality of song, becomes a bondage that is silence, and stands. As modesty, it is at the door of the hum, yonder and here and there. The boast of maleness is walked down to a doorway.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar delivers a sharp critique of patriarchal arrogance and masculine vanity Worldly men puff themselves up with boasts of virility, aggression, and patriarchal supremacy. Sivavakkiyar exposes this machismo as the delusion of fools. True spiritual strength does not lie in brute physical dominance or intellectual swagger, but in the internal alchemy of consciousness. The turbulent ego must be tamed through ages of spiritual maturity, transforming into the sweet melody of divine surrender and the sacred bond of inner silence (மோனம்). Cultivating profound spiritual humility and modesty (நாண்மை), the seeker arrives at the roaring portal of the inner ocean (நரலை வாயில்)—the threshold of primordial Nada—where true, immortal power resides beyond all transient notions of gender.

Verse 335

  1. 1Mingu enra atsaraththin miittuvaagik kuuvudan
  2. 2Thuungamaagas somanodu somanmaari ninridum
  3. 3Angamaa munaichchuzhiyil aagumeegam aagaiyaal
  4. 4Kangulatruk kiyaanamutruk kaanavaay sudaroli.

A letter the line simply names miṅku is plucked again, and with its call a swing begins. The moon stands changed with the moon, as if the two traded places. Because the One comes to be in the whirl at the tip of the body, night ends and knowledge joins, and you will see the flame-light. The verse is a promise of seeing, hung on a syllable it does not translate.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar reveals the esoteric pranic mechanics that lead to inner illumination. By vibrating the subtle seed-letter and channeling the upward ascending call of the breath (கூ), the yogi achieves unbroken, suspended absorption (தூங்கம்). In this state, the cooling lunar nectar of the moon (சோமன்) is harmonized and transmuted within the subtle nadis. At the apex of the central vortex (முனைச்சுழி—the Sushumna aperture between the brows and crown), all fragmented duality coalesces into the radiant One (ஆகும் ஏகம்). As this central portal swings open, the dense night of spiritual ignorance (கங்குல்) is shattered, transcendent gnosis (கியானம் / ஞானம்) floods the soul, and the practitioner directly beholds the self-luminous flame of divine consciousness (சுடரொளி).

Verse 336

  1. 1Sudarezhumbum suutsamum kazhimunaiyin suutsamum
  2. 2Adarezhumbi eegamaaga amarndhu ninra suutsamum
  3. 3Thidaradhaana suutsamum thiriyinvaalai suutsamum
  4. 4Kadalezhumbu suutsamum kandarindhon gnaaniyee.

The knower is defined by what he has seen, and the things seen are all called subtle. The subtlety of a flame rising. The subtlety at the tip of the stalk. The subtlety that rose thick and sat as the one. The subtlety that is sudden. The subtlety of a wick's tail. The subtlety of a sea rising. He who has seen and known these is the knower. The title follows the seeing.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar provides the definitive Siddha criterion for genuine spiritual wisdom (ஞானி). A Jnani is not someone who merely recites scriptures, wears monastic robes, or wins intellectual debates. Authentic illumination is defined entirely by inner experiential vision: perceiving the subtle flame of Kundalini ascending through the spinal core, mastering the secret gateway at the summit of the skull (கழிமுனை), and beholding that fiery energy settle into unmoving, non-dual oneness. It requires knowing the delicate, flickering wick of life (திரியின் வாலை) and the sudden surging of the inner ocean of divine bliss (கடல் எழும்பு சூட்சம்). Only the practitioner who has directly entered, witnessed, and stabilized these subtle internal realities possesses the legitimate right to be called a knower of Truth.

Verse 337

  1. 1Gnaani gnaani enruraiththa naaygal kodigodiyee
  2. 2Vaanilaadha mazhainaalenra vaadhigodi kodiyee
  3. 3Thaanilaa saagaraththin thanmaigaanaa muudargal
  4. 4Muunilaamal kodi kodi munnarindha thenparee.

The title knower is now thrown back at the crowd. Dogs, crores of them, say jñāni, jñāni. Disputants, crores of them, speak of a rainy day that has no sky. Fools do not see the nature of an ocean that has no place. The last line is compressed. Without the sign the print calls மூன், crores say that this is what was known before. Saying the title is the opposite of the seeing the previous verse required.

The teaching

Following his description of the true sage, Sivavakkiyar unleashes scathing contempt against the rampant pretenders of spirituality. He compares the legions of self-proclaimed enlightened masters to barking dogs (நாய்கள் கோடிகோடியே) who mouth the sacred word 'Jnani' without a shred of experiential realization. These sectarian disputants are as absurd as fools describing torrential rain falling from a non-existent sky. Completely blind to the shoreless, spaceless ocean of pure consciousness (தானிலா சாகரம்), these ignorant charlatans lack the foundational three-fold inner realization (the balance of breath, mind, and Kundalini), yet boast arrogantly that they have already mastered the primordial mysteries. Sivavakkiyar warns seekers against mistaking these noisy, superficial pretenders for authentic knowers of the divine.

Verse 338

Sivayam is placed, not defined. On the subtle horn, in the flame at the whirl's tip, in a blown flower, at the door where the broad one rests, on the horn of shyness, in the temple where he dwelt, on the island that is initiation. What excelled in all those places is Sivayam. The verse is a tour of inner sites, and every site gives the same name.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar guides the seeker on an internal pilgrimage through the sacred geography of the subtle body. God does not dwell in stone temples fashioned by human hands, but atop the subtle cranial horn (சூட்சமான கொம்பு) and within the blazing flame of the Sushumna vortex (சுழிமுனைச் சுடர்). There, consciousness unfolds like a celestial flower, revealing the vast portal through which cosmic energy flows. In that sacred, delicate temple within the crown of the head, the indwelling Lord makes His eternal abode. This inner summit is the true island of divine initiation (தீட்சையான தீவு)—a realm where external rituals fall away and the radiant, liberating reality of Sivaya(ma) reveals its boundless supremacy.

Verse 339

  1. 1Pongininra monamum podhindhuninra monamum
  2. 2Thangininra monamum thayangininra monamum
  3. 3Kangaiyaana monamum kadhiththuninra monamum
  4. 4Thingalaana monamum sivanirundha monamee.

Silence is counted in kinds, and the last kind gathers the rest. Silence that surged. Silence packed tight. Silence that settled. Silence that wavered. Silence that is the Ganga. Silence that stood as a ray. Silence that is the moon. Then the line stops. All of these are the silence in which Siva abode. The verse does not ask you to pick one silence. It says he stayed in the silence they are.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar delivers a sublime symphony on the multiple dimensions of Mouna (மோனம் / mystical Silence). Silence is not merely the passive absence of speech; it is the dynamic, multifaceted texture of divine consciousness. There is the silence that surges with ecstatic pranic energy, the silence concentrated deep within the heart, the silence settled in absolute immobility, and the silence shimmering with sacred wonder. It flows as the celestial river of cranial ambrosia (கங்கையான மோனம்), radiates as the blazing ray of gnosis, and soothes the soul like the nectarine inner moon (திங்களான மோனம்). In this magnificent realization, Sivavakkiyar reveals that Shiva is not a dogma, an idol, or a concept, but the living, all-encompassing Silence in which the entire cosmos rests.
