The Project Madurai table prints this gloss beside verse 359. It explains a word in this song:

The lamp's crown has a tip, and there the channel belongs to the sun's light, which the source gloss names as திவாகரம். In a pit where anger turns, a fire stands boiling. In a corner that has become heat, a subtlety stands ready, and beside it stands a release that has become a curse. Both are pared down, and both shine. The song's sharpness is in calling liberation a curse while the subtle, heated corner is what remains bright.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar penetrates the esoteric anatomy of the cranial lamp, where the tip of the ascending flame meets the solar channel of blazing illumination (திவாகரம் / the Surya mandala). Below, in the furnace of the lower abdomen where base instincts, anger, and passions boil, the yogi transmutes psychic toxins into spiritual fuel through intense internal heat (தாபம்). In this alchemical crucible, the subtle diamond-body (சூட்சுமம்) is cooked to perfection. Paradoxically, even conventional religious notions of "liberation" (மோட்சம்)—which become a binding curse (சாபம்) when pursued as an ego-driven fantasy of heaven—are sliced away and discarded. Stripped of all dogma, pure self-existent reality shines forth in unadorned, radiant splendor.

Verse 359

  1. 1Theesigan suzhanradhee thirimunaiyin vaalaiyil
  2. 2Veesamodu vaalaiyil viyanirundha muulaiyil
  3. 3Neesasandhi rodhayam niraindhirundha vaayilil
  4. 4Viisi viisi ninradhee virindhuninra monamee.

Printed in the source at the start of verse 359, this gloss explains a word in verse 358:

The guide, who slipped free when the red flame rose, is now what whirls, and the place of the whirling is the tail at the wick's tip. A disguise goes with that tail, and a vast one sits in a corner. The gate is full of a dawn that belongs to the junction of love. The printed split between junction and dawn is tight. What stands there, fanning and fanning, is silence spread open.

The teaching

The internal Guru (தேசிகன்)—the innate guiding wisdom of consciousness—whirls dynamically at the confluence of the three subtle channels (திரிமுனை - Ida, Pingala, and Sushumna) and the alembic of the divine maiden Vaalai (வாலை / youthful Kundalini Shakti). Stripping away all external hypocrisy, religious disguises, and sectarian posturing, the adept rests in the vast inner chamber of the heart-space. At this sacred spiritual threshold, the dawn of loving union (சந்திரோதயம்) rises, flooding the practitioner with the cooling nectar of the lunar sphere. The vital breath (வாசி) fans continuously like an ambrosial breeze, opening out into the boundless, all-encompassing expanse of supreme silence (விரிந்து நின்ற மோனம்).

Verse 360

  1. 1Utkamala monamiidhil uyangininra nandhiyai
  2. 2Vikkalodu kiiyumaagi vilvalaivin maththiyil
  3. 3Mutpodhindhadhu ennavee mudugininra senjudar
  4. 4Katkuvaigal polavum kadindhuninra kaatsiyee.

On the silence of the inner lotus a bull, Nandi, stands risen. With a hiccup it becomes the lower thing, and this happens in the middle of a bow's curve. A red flame rushes there as if a thorn had been sheathed. The last image is compressed: heaps for the eye, and a vision that stands cut short. The sight you get is sudden, bodily, and broken off, which is how this vision arrives.

The teaching

Upon the silent internal lotus of the spiritual heart and crown, the divine Bull Nandi—the pure, unblinking witness of transcendent awareness—stands exalted. As the erratic physical breaths and spasms of mortal anxiety subside, awareness is gathered and aimed directly between the eyebrows at the curved arch of the bow (வில்வளைவு / Ajna chakra). Suddenly, like an arrow or a concealed thorn piercing through its sheath, the intense crimson fire of Kundalini surges upward with electrifying speed. All accumulated heaps of sensory impressions, mental constructs, and external sights are instantly severed, unveiling the sudden, unconditioned revelation of the non-dual Self that dissolves the illusion of the empirical world.

Verse 361

  1. 1Undhiyil suzhivazhiyil uchchiyutra maththayil
  2. 2Sandhiran oligaranam thaandininra senjudar
  3. 3Pandhamaaga vilvalaivil panjapuudha vinjaiyaam
  4. 4Kindhupola kiiyilninru kiichchumuuchchu enradhee.

The path runs from the navel through a whirl into the center that has reached the crown. A red flame stands after crossing the moon's organ of light. In the curve of the bow it is a ball, and that ball is the art of the five elements. Then it stands below like a drop and makes the small noise of squeak and breath. The high figure comes down to the sound your breathing actually makes.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar charts the subtle pathway of Vasi yoga ascending from the navel vortex (உந்தி / Manipura) straight through the central conduit to the cranial crown (உச்சி). Piercing past the luminous moon-sphere and transcending the limitations of sensory perception, the blazing crimson fire of Kundalini establishes its sovereignty. Concentrated like a radiant orb at the curve of the eyebrow arch, it commands the occult science and mastery over the five cosmic elements (பஞ்சபூத விஞ்சை). Yet Sivavakkiyar brilliantly grounds this cosmic transcendence in the physical organism: this immense metaphysical reality originates in nothing other than the subtle, rhythmic pulsation of respiration (கீச்சுமூச்சு) stirring like a tiny drop in the mortal vessel.

Verse 362

  1. 1Sechchaiyenra muuchchinodu sigaaramum vagaaramum
  2. 2Pachchaiyaagi ninradhee paraveliyin paanmaiyee
  3. 3Ichchaiyaana uuvilee irundhezhundha iiyilee
  4. 4Uchchiyaana konaththil udhiththadhee sivaayamee.

A breath the line calls chechai carries two letters, si and va, and what stands there has become green. That green standing is called the manner of the supreme open. Desire has a vowel u, and from resting there a vowel i rises. In the corner that is the crown, what comes up is Sivayama. The name is built in front of you from the letters and the breath, and it breaks out at the top.

The teaching

Through the disciplined regulation of rhythmic respiration (வாசி), the sacred syllables 'Si' (pure consciousness) and 'Va' (dynamic grace) fuse seamlessly with the vital inhalation and exhalation. This harmonious inner breath bestows vibrant spiritual rejuvenation (பச்சை - verdant life and immortality), aligning the practitioner with the spacious, unconditioned nature of the supreme void (பரவெளி). Transmuting the grounding energy of material desire ('U' / உகாரம்) into the ascending nectar of divine gnosis ('I' / ஈகாரம்), the full mystery of the Five Letters (Sivayanama) dawns at the triangular summit of the Sahasrara crown like an unsetting sun of cosmic enlightenment.

Verse 363

  1. 1Aarumuulaik konaththil amaindhaonpa thaaththilee
  2. 2Thaarumenru nangaiyaana naaviyum therindhidak
  3. 3Kuurumenru aivarangu konduninra monamee
  4. 4Paarugondu ninradhu parandhadhee sivaayamee.

A corner of six angles holds a further spot whose printed name is compressed, something like a ninth that was set in place. A tongue that has become the lady is told, in effect, to descend so that it can be known. The five stand there holding a silence, as if they will declare it. What then stands taking the edge, and what spreads, is Sivayama. The verse keeps the five, the tongue, and the name in one tight corner.

The teaching

Within the esoteric geometry of the human temple—the six-angled star of the subtle chakras (ஆறுமூலைக் கோணம்) and the nine bodily apertures and conduits (ஒன்பது ஆத்து)—the Siddha conducts internal worship. The sleeping serpent goddess (நங்கை / Kundalini), rooted at the navel and perineal base, is awakened to circulate her divine current upward through the subtle nadis. The five senses, which once scattered awareness outward into worldly turmoil, are drawn inward and subdued into profound, meditative stillness (மோனம்). Firmly anchored upon the immovable rock of pure witnessing awareness, the sacred vibration of Sivayanama spreads infinitely, filling the entire inner and outer cosmos with serene silence.
