A corner of six angles holds a further spot whose printed name is compressed, something like a ninth that was set in place. A tongue that has become the lady is told, in effect, to descend so that it can be known. The five stand there holding a silence, as if they will declare it. What then stands taking the edge, and what spreads, is Sivayama. The verse keeps the five, the tongue, and the name in one tight corner.

The teaching

Within the esoteric geometry of the human temple—the six-angled star of the subtle chakras (ஆறுமூலைக் கோணம்) and the nine bodily apertures and conduits (ஒன்பது ஆத்து)—the Siddha conducts internal worship. The sleeping serpent goddess (நங்கை / Kundalini), rooted at the navel and perineal base, is awakened to circulate her divine current upward through the subtle nadis. The five senses, which once scattered awareness outward into worldly turmoil, are drawn inward and subdued into profound, meditative stillness (மோனம்). Firmly anchored upon the immovable rock of pure witnessing awareness, the sacred vibration of Sivayanama spreads infinitely, filling the entire inner and outer cosmos with serene silence.

Verse 364

  1. 1Parandhadhee karandhapodhu paaychchaluurin vazhiyilee
  2. 2Pirandhadhee piraanananrip pennumaanum allavee
  3. 3Thurandhadho sirandhadho thuuyadhungam aanadho
  4. 4Irandhapodhil anradhee ilangidum sivaayamee.

What flew is placed at the moment of milking, on the path of the flowing town. What was born is other than the life-breath, and it is other than woman and other than man. Three questions follow, asking whether it was renounced, whether it was the excellent thing, whether it became the pure height. The closing line sets those questions aside by location: the hour of death is the wrong hour, and Sivayama is what shines.

The teaching

Along the surging internal river of the subtle spine (பாய்ச்சலூர்), the ambrosial lunar nectar is milked through Vasi yoga, causing the spiritual consciousness to soar like a bird into the open sky. That which is birthed through this mystical awakening is entirely distinct from the ordinary biological breath and transcends all dualistic categories of gender—it is neither male nor female, but the unconditioned, genderless Self. Sectarian debates over whether this state represents formal ascetic renunciation, supreme virtue, or pristine loftiness are completely meaningless. Furthermore, this realization is not a reward deferred to the physical grave; it is the immediate, living revelation of Sivayanama shining resplendently within the awakened body here and now.

Verse 365

  1. 1Arulirundha veliyilee arukkanninra irulilee
  2. 2Porulirundha suzhiyilee purandezhundha vazhiyilee
  3. 3Therulirundha kalaiyilee thiyangininra valaiyilee
  4. 4Kuruvirundha vazhiyininru uuvumiiyum aanadhee.

Four places are laid in a chain: the open where grace was, the dark where the sun stood, the whirl where the real substance was, the path that rolled and rose, the art where clarity was, the net that stood bewildered. From the path where the teacher was, the outcome is two vowels, u and i. Grace, sunlight, wealth, clarity, and confusion are all on the way to those letters. The teacher’s road ends as sound you can name.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar outlines the paradoxes of the mystical journey through the internal expanse of Divine Grace (அருள் வெளி), where even the brilliant light of the physical sun is revealed as darkness when compared to the uncreated radiance of the void. Entering the swirling vortex (சுழி / Ajna) where the ultimate Reality (பொருள்) resides, the yogi navigates the ascending serpentine spiral of prana, passing between the luminous clarity of spiritual insight (தெருள்) and the entangling snares of worldly illusion. Following the footsteps of the inner Satguru, all cosmic dualities resolve into the two fundamental seed-vowels 'U' and 'I' (ஊவும் ஈயும்)—the mystic polarity of Shakti (matter/energy) and Shiva (consciousness)—united in seamless harmony.

Verse 366

  2. 2கானமோடு தாலமீதில் கண்டறிவது இல்லையே;
  1. 1Aanadhor ezhuththilee amaindhuninra aadhiyee
  2. 2Kaanamodu thaalamiidhil kandarivadhu illaiyee;
  3. 3Thaanum thaanum aanadhee samaindhamaalai kaalaiyil
  4. 4Eenalodu maarupol irundhadhee sivaayamee.

An origin stands settled inside the one letter it became. On the ground, forest and all, the line says there is nothing there to see and know. What became itself and itself does so in an evening and a morning that have been prepared. The last phrase is compressed: Sivayama stood like a reversal beside the ஏனல், a word that can be a herd or a field-ridge. The letter holds the beginning, and the outdoor scene holds nothing you can recognize.

The teaching

The primordial Origin of the universe (ஆதி) is wholly concentrated and seated within the Single Imperishable Letter (the Ekakshara / Pranava). Sivavakkiyar ridicules those who seek the Divine by wandering in desolate forests (கானம்) or undertaking arduous pilgrimages across worldly geography (தாலம்), for the Truth cannot be discovered externally. When the dualities of morning and evening dissolve at the mystical twilight junction (சந்தி / the balanced breath in Sushumna), the individual self merges into the Supreme Self (தானே தானாய்) in non-dual absorption. Like a fierce wild boar charging through a field of millet, the awakened power of Sivayanama ruthlessly crushes and sweeps away all karmic entanglements and mental illusions.

Verse 367

  1. 1Aarugonda vaariyum amaiththuninra theyvamum
  2. 2Thuurugonda maariyum thulangininra thuuramum
  3. 3Viirugonda monamum vilangum utkamalamum
  4. 4Maarugonda uuvilee madindhadhee sivaayamee.

Water takes a river, a deity stands composed, rain takes a thicket, a distance stands bright, silence takes splendor, and an inner lotus shines. The catalogue is outer weather and inner flower in one list. All of it folds in the vowel u that has taken the reversal. What is folded there is Sivayama. The name sits inside the letter where opposition itself has been gathered.

The teaching

All outward manifestations of nature and human religion—the boundless oceans fed by rivers, the stone idols and sectarian deities invented by orthodox priesthoods, the torrential monsoon rains drenching dense thickets, and the distant celestial realms promised by scriptures—are merely transient projections. Even the lofty internal experiences of meditative stillness (மோனம்) and the radiant blossoming of the inner heart-lotus find their ultimate culmination by collapsing into the primordial womb of the seed-sound 'U' (ஊகாரம் / the pranavic source). In this profound dissolution, all names, forms, and dualities die away, leaving only the unconditioned, silent majesty of Sivayanama.

Verse 368

  1. 1Vaayilganda konamil vayangumaivar vaigiyee

  3. 3Kaayavandu kandadhum karuvuurangus senradhum
  4. 4Paayum enru senradhum parandhadhee sivaayamee.

In the corner that has seen the gate, the five who shine take their seat. Something draws near after seeing a form, and something dwells as the king of the head. A bee of the body sees, and something goes to the inner town. Something goes saying it will leap, and something flies. The line's heap of goings has one name at the end: what flew is Sivayama.

The teaching

Within the subtle angles of the bodily gateways, the five sensory agents and vital pranas hold court, initially seducing the ego into chasing transient shadows and playing the monarch over a fragile, mortal kingdom. But when the discerning mystic bee of consciousness (காய வண்டு) discovers the nectar of internal bliss, it abandons outer trivialities and journeys to the primordial origin (கருவூர்—the timeless source transcending physical birth and death). Leaping beyond the gravitational pull of bodily identification and mental agitation, all illusory bonds shatter, and consciousness takes flight into the infinite, liberated expanse of Sivayanama.
