The mantra is given a bodily address. It is in the hole of the white seed and inside the womb of the blood. It is on the mound that sprouted at the gate of three squares, inside the true square of the true body, as the shining lamp of knowledge. The mantra that is uttered there is Om Nama Sivaya. Seed, blood, gate, and mound are where the letters are said. The name is sounded in the place a body begins.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar grounds the supreme mystery of the Five Letters directly in the visceral reality of biological conception—within the droplet of paternal semen (சுக்கிலம்) and the maternal ovum/blood (சுரோணிதம்). At the three-cornered pelvic gateway of the Muladhara and the rising mound of embryonic life, inside this very physical frame (மெய்)—the true four-square temple of reality—the sacred mantra blazes as the resplendent lamp of divine gnosis (ஞான தீபம்). The mantra silently and perpetually uttered by life itself is Om Nama Sivaya. The Five Letters are not words invented by priests to be bought and sold in temples; they are the innate, biological and metaphysical vibration that constructed and sustains the human body.

The beginningless is stripped off everything that usually claims it. The letter is that. The soul is that. The elements that had entered, and the senses, are that. The books, the ones that fit and the ones that go too far, and the treatises, are that. Each is said to be other than the beginningless. What stands level and mixed together with them, see, that truth is the beginningless. The command is to look at the mixture.

The teaching

In this staggering climax, Sivavakkiyar demolishes all conventional theological absolutes. The written sacred letters (அக்கரம்) are not beginningless (அனாதி); even the individualized soul (ஆத்துமம் / jivatman) is not beginningless! The five cosmic elements that entered the body and the sensory organs are likewise not beginningless. The revered scriptures, philosophical treatises, and theological texts (சாத்திரம்), whether celebrated or inflated, are all temporal, human constructs. What then is truly beginningless? See the ultimate Truth: that which stands level with all things, intimately interpenetrating and blended with every atom of existence That non-dual, immanent yet transcendent Presence alone is the Beginningless Reality (அனாதி)—to be realized directly within one's own living being.

The song sets a riddle and will not leave it hanging. Something stood as softness, and something left, stood, and touched. A noble hearer is told to answer as the truth. What stood is then named as the feminine, and the thing that left and touched is put beside it. Liberation, if one speaks of it truly, was whatever had already mixed itself inside. Softness is not a mood here. It is the subtle presence one misses while trying to name it from the outside.

The teaching

In the esoteric twilight language (Sandhya bhasha) of the Siddhas, Sivavakkiyar presents a riddle of subtle yogic anatomy. The gentle, standing softness (மென்மை) is the divine feminine energy—the coiled Kundalini Shakti dormant at the base of the spine. When awakened through breath control (Vasi yoga), this subtle power detaches from its dormant root (விட்டு), ascends the central channel (Sushumna), pauses in meditative stillness (நின்று), and touches the crown of the head (Sahasrara) where it communes with pure Shiva-consciousness. The poet warns against seeking liberation as an external prize bestowed from outside or in some post-mortem heaven. True Mukti is the experiential realization of that which has already and eternally mingled within (உட்கலந்து இருந்ததே). Liberation is not an acquisition, but the inward conscious fusion of Shiva and Shakti within the seeker’s own living frame.

Restraint is the question, and the five letters are the place named for it. Can the whole cosmos be held down inside those letters? The body one has taken up is then tied to an inner secret: the source gloss gives உடக்கு as the hidden point within. Because that secret is never grasped, Veda-chanting comes apart. The last line, itself compressed, asks whether a reciter who has become a poison-dog will only talk in contradictory ways. Knowing the body as truth is set against piling one recited doctrine on another.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar challenges those who believe that the boundless cosmos can be violently forced or suppressed into a mechanical chant of the Five Letters (அஞ்செழுத்து). Mere aggressive willpower and outward ascetic suppression cannot capture the infinite. Instead, the physical body must be understood as an embodiment of the sacred inner secret (உடக்கு)—the subtle spiritual center where the macrocosm is reflected in the microcosm. When ritualistic scholars endlessly recite the six Vedangas and scriptures without anchoring them in this living, internal realization, their chanting degenerates into hypocritical noise. Sivavakkiyar unsparingly compares such pedantic disputants to barking, meat-scavenging dogs (விடக்கு நாய்) who utter contradictory doctrines. The true power of the Five Letters is realized not by outward vocal recitation, but by knowing the sacred vessel of the body as truth and awakening the indwelling Lord within.

Explanation is handed to people who know. Three things are lined up for them to unfold: a true wheel that stood as a means, a cool body that became the form one wears, and a whiteness that ripened and stood in water itself. The song does not unpack the images. It says the knowers must speak them out at length. Wheel, cool flesh, and the white standing in water belong to one inward account. They are not three ornaments for a shrine.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar issues a direct challenge to enlightened Jnanis to unfold three central mysteries of Siddha internal alchemy. The "true wheel" (உண்மையான சக்கரம்) is the dynamic system of psychic vortices—the chakras along the Sushumna axis, particularly the Muladhara and Sahasrara—used as the practical yogic vehicle (உபாயம்) for transmutation. The "cool body" (தண்மையான காயம்) signifies the mortal form transformed and revitalized by the descending ambrosial nectar of immortality (amrita / soma) that cascades from the crown to soothe the fiery ascent of Kundalini. The "whiteness that ripened in water" (வெண்மையாகி நீரிலே விளைந்து நின்றது) points esoterically to the purified Bindu—the primordial drop of luminous spiritual essence—maturing within the cranial ocean of consciousness. These esoteric occurrences are neither mythological allegories nor external rituals, but precise alchemical transformations experienced directly within the subtle body of an accomplished Siddha.

Oil already sits inside the sesame seed, and in that same way the Lord is already within, spread through every place. The fools addressed here still swing and sway, as if he were elsewhere. The test that follows is domestic and hard. A snatching dog's tail keeps its crook; if that nature can be spoiled, the generous light can be seen, and that seeing is called the truth. Sight is tied to a changed habit, not to a new opinion about God.

The teaching

Using the classic Indian philosophical metaphor of oil invisibly pervading every grain of sesame (எள்ளகத்தில் எண்ணெய்), Sivavakkiyar affirms that the Supreme Lord is utterly omnipresent, intimately seated within the sanctum of the human heart. Yet foolish seekers swing back and forth like agitated pendulums, endlessly running to distant pilgrimage sites and temples while ignoring the indwelling presence. To diagnose their spiritual blindness, the Siddha uses a rustic folk image: the proverbial crooked tail of a scavenging dog. The crooked tail symbolizes the incorrigible, grasping mind and the deep-seated vasanas (habitual tendencies) that perpetually bend consciousness toward external duality and worldly craving. Only if a seeker can break and eradicate this stubborn, crooked nature of the mind will the boundless, self-giving Light of Divine Grace (வள்ளலாகி நின்ற சோதி) spontaneously shine forth as the ultimate Reality.
