Other people's property is wanted every day. The same people cheat, seize what is not theirs, and wander with that as the whole of the life. Worship sits inside the charge: daily rites and occasional rites are swelled up, and the people who do it are called sinners. On this earth the seven hells are already waiting, and the line calls the waiting a fact. The rites travel with the theft. The punishment is spoken in the present.
The teaching
Sivavakkiyar delivers a stern ethical indictment of insatiable greed and deceitful living. Driven by relentless desire (ஆசை), unscrupulous people spend their days swindling and consuming the wealth of others, acting as spiritual fools blinded by material lust. Trapped in the agonizing, suffocating net of worldly attachments and karmic bonds (பாசவலை), they inevitably bring upon themselves catastrophic ruin and endless misery. In their frantic scrambling for illicit worldly gains, they remain entirely ignorant of the incomparable, serene bliss (இன்பம்) that dawns when consciousness centers itself in unbroken, loving contemplation of the indwelling Lord (ஈசனை நினைந்து நிற்கும்). The Siddha warns that dishonest worldly pursuits merely tighten the noose of suffering, while true fulfillment is found solely in anchoring the mind in the divine presence within.
