Someone promises an alchemical working that will yield silver and gold of a high touch. A guru is tied into the promise so gold coins will be handed over, and a practice is performed. The printed name of the property that changes hands is tight and uncertain, though the next motion is plain: the moment that property is seized, they run a katam of road. Even a later sight of them is rare. The metals are the bait. The verse follows the flight.
The teaching
Sivavakkiyar turns his razor-sharp satire on the predatory charlatans who exploit the esoteric Siddha science of alchemy (ரசவாதம்). These fraudulent scoundrels boast of possessing miraculous powers to transmute base substances into pure silver and high-touch gold. Wrapping their fraud in sacred terminology, they invoke the name of the spiritual guru and demand gold coins and valuable offerings to perform their supposed alchemical secret. The moment the gullible victims hand over their precious wealth, the con artist snatches the treasure and flees across the horizon, never to be seen again. The Siddha reminds seekers that authentic alchemy is internal—transmuting the crude base metals of human ignorance, ego, and mortality into the immortal golden light of divine awareness—and warns against greedy impostors who peddle material illusions.
