The promise is spoken first: see, I will grant the attainment here in advance, so liberation can be joined. The speakers wear a swami's dress and talk of truths in every place. Day after day, justice and wisdom are spoken so the belly can be filled. If the money is snatched in the dress of devotion, the line sends them into a wasted hell. The grammar itself keeps a condition. Devotion that picks the pocket is the fall the line names.
The teaching
Sivavakkiyar targets deceptive religious gurus who commercialize the path to spiritual liberation. Putting on the sacred costume of a swami (சாமிவேடம்) and swearing solemn oaths of truth, these predators entice vulnerable seekers by promising to instantly bestow miraculous occult powers (சித்தி) as a shortcut to ultimate salvation (முத்தி). Daily, they hold forth on righteousness, ethics, and scriptural wisdom (நீதி ஞானம்), but their eloquence is merely a deceitful enterprise to fill their own bellies. By weaponizing devotion (பக்தி) to extract hard-earned wealth from their followers, they commit the gravest spiritual betrayal. Sivavakkiyar warns that those who trade sacred wisdom for gold inevitably seal their own doom, plunging headlong into the desolate abyss of spiritual destruction and hellish misery (பாழ் நரகம்).
