A string of refusals tries to clear a space. It is not form and not light, and it stands as one. It is not a stain and not a smell, and it is not something that happened to the slow channel. It is not large and not small, and it is not itself the speaking breath. What remains is a straightness that stands as the rare thing. The last line asks who is able to see it. The negations are the approach. The dare is the sight.
The teaching
A relentless Neti-Neti (not this, not that) deconstruction of the Ultimate Reality. The Supreme is neither physical form (உருவம்) nor perceptible light (ஒளி), yet it stands as undivided, non-dual Oneness (ஒன்றதாகி நின்றதே). It is neither a stain nor a fragrance; it is not an event bound to the slow, sluggish nadi channels; it is neither macrocosmic magnitude (பெரியதல்ல) nor microcosmic minuteness (சிறியதல்ல); it is not even the embodied, talking individual soul / breath (பேசும் ஆவி தானும் அல்ல). Sivavakkiyar asks with mystical awe: who has the rare, refined intuitive vision to perceive this peerless, unconditioned, straight Truth To realize the Divine, one must transcend all physical attributes, mental categories, and subtle energetic states, resting in the pure transcendent Void.
