The body in these lines is the mute frame that lay through ten months. It is counted in pairs: two hands, two feet, and two eyes with them. The third line is tightly printed, gathering that frame as sound and setting taste and smell beside it as things that shine. What people call the pure body is this same frame the song is describing.
The teaching
With characteristic boldness, Sivavakkiyar deconstructs the physical body to dismantle orthodox obsessions with ritual purity and caste cleanliness. He traces the biological genesis of every human frame: for ten lunar months (ஐயிரண்டு திங்கள்), the developing embryo remains contained within the maternal womb, sculpted entirely from uterine blood and gestational fluids (தூமை). From that very substance, the human architecture emerges—two hands, two feet, two eyes, massed flesh, and the sensory faculties of sound, taste, and odor. Orthodox priests routinely disparage these natural bodily fluids as impure, yet hypocritically venerate the resulting physical form as a 'pure and immaculate body' (துய்ய காயம்). By revealing that all human beings share the exact same humble, biological origin, Sivavakkiyar annihilates all pretensions of caste hierarchy and external sanctity.
