The verse piles a world and then burns the one who might report it. Elements appear in a compressed opening phrase, with a source that cannot be measured, gods who weigh like a burden, a bond with no flaw, a universe that will not be made one, and worlds stacked on worlds. Against that stands a body that joined, burned, and was gone. What remains for that body to say? The opening count is uncertain in the print. The ash has nothing left to tell.
The teaching
An unsparing critique of ostentatious religiosity, communal hypocrisy, and mechanical piety. Sivavakkiyar questions the crowds who gather in elaborate sectarian costumes (கூடி நின்ற கோலம்), calculating the geographical distances of their arduous pilgrimages (ஓடி நின்ற தூரம்) as badges of spiritual merit. What real spiritual good is gained when one fails to seek the Divine within the living breath-channels (நாடி) of one's own organism? Simply singing devotional hymns with the throat (பாடி நின்ற பத்தர்) without an inward alchemical transformation does not secure the intimate grace of the Divine. The Lord does not dispense grace to superficial, external pageantry; He reveals Himself only to those who cease their restless running and realize the silent presence within the body.
