The places keep changing and stay one path: the road of the flowing town, the whirl where the supreme sits, the tip of a heated branch, the hill that holds the fruit. Into that map the singer throws a blunt question about the blowing. Whatever the blowing is, its spread comes to rest right here. The flame at the end is breath drawing breath, standing so close that it butts against the one who breathes.

The teaching

The dreaded wheel of cyclic existence (சம்சாரம்)—the relentless torment of repeated birth and death—is permanently shattered for those resolute seekers who master internal discipline. By assimilating and chanting the three primordial seed-letters (A-U-M / the Pranava) through the yogic science of breath retention and upward drawing (பூரி / Pooraka in Vasi yoga), the subtle energy expands beyond physical limits. The awakened consciousness ascends into the luminous lunar sphere of the cranium (சந்திர மண்டலம்), basking in the cool, nectarine radiance of inner moonlight. Here, the sovereign resonance of the Five Letters (Sivayanama) assumes total dominion over the subtle body, expanding boundlessly into the formless expanse of the cosmic void.

Verse 354

  1. 1Sodhi sodhi enrunaadith thorpavar silavaree
  2. 2Aadhi aadhi enrunaadum aadavar silavaree
  3. 3Vaadhi vaadhi enrusollum vambarum silavaree
  4. 4Niidhi niidhi niidhi niidhi ninridum muzhuchchudar.

The flame of the previous lines is now a word people chase. Some go looking by saying light, light, and they lose. Some men go looking by saying origin, origin. Some quarrelers keep saying dispute, dispute. Against that chatter the full flame stands, and the line gives it the word justice four times over. The repetition is the point: the names people hunt with are the same doubled sounds, while the flame simply remains.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar scathingly condemns verbal spiritual pretension, theological scholasticism, and sectarian debate. Throngs of ritualists exhaust their lives mechanically crying "Light! Light!" or wandering in search of the "Origin! Origin!", yet their outward quests end in inevitable spiritual defeat because they search everywhere except within their own consciousness. Meanwhile, contentious pedants and sectarian dialecticians (வாதிகள்) squander their breaths in bitter philosophical disputes and semantic hair-splitting. Transcending all hollow chatter and theological controversy, the undivided, consummate Flame of Supreme Consciousness (முழுச்சுடர்) stands eternally self-revealed as absolute Truth, cosmic harmony, and immutable Justice (நீதி). It cannot be attained through arguments, but only through silent, experiential surrender.

Verse 355

The flame rises, and in that rising time itself becomes incense. The line then steps back to before earth and sky were arranged as one, and it keeps a run of rhyming words for becoming the flame, becoming distress, spreading, and pressing close. The beginning that stood in order to spread turned into the five elements. Through the whole universe that same beginning stands as maleness, pressed in close. The grammar of the rhyming verbs is tight and compressed in the print.

The teaching

When the primordial fire of Kundalini surges up the central axis of the Siddha, the illusion of linear time (காலம்) is consumed in the blaze, dissipating harmlessly like the fragrant smoke of burning incense. Sivavakkiyar traces this internal awakening to the very cosmic dawn, before heaven and earth were brought together amid existential suffering and separation. That same non-dual primordial Source (ஆதி) expanded outwards to manifest as the five gross elements (பஞ்சபூதம்) and densely sustains the entire cosmos as the all-permeating, sovereign masculine principle (ஆண்மை / Purusha). The yogi discovers that the cosmic force which created and upholds the macrocosm (அண்டம்) is identically active within the microcosm (பிண்டம்) as the supreme spinal flame.

The flame that stood is met by human beings on the ground. Seeing it, knowing it, their eyes cool, and they move about in love. On the upper tip of the field they have met, they will see the vision itself. The last line is compressed: a calf-word ceases, a channel surges, and the sound rejoices. Love on the ground and joy in the sound are the same meeting, carried up to a tip where vision sees vision.

The teaching

Blessed are the mortals who recognize that the eternal Divine Light does not inhabit distant heavens or stony shrines, but stands ever-present within the human vessel. Having perceived this inner radiance, the burning fever of worldly craving is extinguished, their inner vision cools into serene peace (கண்குளிர்ந்து), and they walk the earth intoxicated with universal divine love (காதல்). Ascending beyond the throat center (கண்டம்) to the pinnacle of the third eye and crown (மேன்முனை), they behold the unconditioned vision of pure awareness witnessing itself. All psychological scars, distress, and karmic bonds are severed; the fourfold subtle currents surge with ambrosia, and the primal inner vibration (நாதம்) reverberates in ecstatic liberation.

Verse 357

  1. 1Vayangumonas senjudar vadindhasodhi naadhamum
  2. 2Kayangalpolak kadhariyee karuvuuratra veliyilee
  3. 3Payangodinri inriyee padarndhuninra paanmaiyai
  4. 4Nayangalgoven reenadungi nangaiyaana thiipamee.

Shining silence has a red flame, a poured light, and a sound, and they cry the way ponds cry, in an open place that has no inner town. The manner of standing spread is without fear and without any leftover today. Someone trembles while calling for the graces to be taken, and the lamp has become the lady. The cry in the last line is oddly spaced in the print. Tenderness arrives inside a landscape that has been emptied.

The teaching

In the exalted depths of silent meditation, the crimson flame of pure silence (மோனச் செஞ்சுடர்), liquid poured light, and the unstruck celestial sound (நாதம்) blend into an overwhelming experiential reality. In the womb-less expanse (கருவூரற்ற வெளி)—the transcendent void completely stripped of physical conception and karmic rebirth—the vital currents roar and crash like surging waters across deep reservoirs. All mortal terror and fear of dissolution evaporate, allowing consciousness to expand limitlessly without boundary. In this awe-inspiring state, the divine Kundalini power manifests as the radiant primordial Maiden (நங்கையான தீபம்), trembling with sublime luminescence and dissolving the last remnants of ego in her luminous embrace.

Verse 358

  1. 1Thiipauchchi munaiyilee thivaagaraththin kazhiyilee
  2. 2Kopamaaru kuuvilee kodhiththuninra thiiyilee
  3. 3Thaapamaana muulaiyil samaindhuninra suutsamum
  4. 4Saapamaana motsamum thadindhuninru ilangumee.

The Project Madurai table prints this gloss beside verse 359. It explains a word in this song:

The lamp's crown has a tip, and there the channel belongs to the sun's light, which the source gloss names as திவாகரம். In a pit where anger turns, a fire stands boiling. In a corner that has become heat, a subtlety stands ready, and beside it stands a release that has become a curse. Both are pared down, and both shine. The song's sharpness is in calling liberation a curse while the subtle, heated corner is what remains bright.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar penetrates the esoteric anatomy of the cranial lamp, where the tip of the ascending flame meets the solar channel of blazing illumination (திவாகரம் / the Surya mandala). Below, in the furnace of the lower abdomen where base instincts, anger, and passions boil, the yogi transmutes psychic toxins into spiritual fuel through intense internal heat (தாபம்). In this alchemical crucible, the subtle diamond-body (சூட்சுமம்) is cooked to perfection. Paradoxically, even conventional religious notions of "liberation" (மோட்சம்)—which become a binding curse (சாபம்) when pursued as an ego-driven fantasy of heaven—are sliced away and discarded. Stripped of all dogma, pure self-existent reality shines forth in unadorned, radiant splendor.
