Customary talk and inward pining are set side by side, and the hearers are called mute. A grain measure carries the argument. Speaking of a nazhi as if it existed without the ulakku is an empty boast, while four ulakku are what make a nazhi, and that same reckoning is said to hold inside the person. Talking in the old way does not locate anyone. The close puts the Lord in the mind, the very place the talking has been used to avoid.
The teaching
Sivavakkiyar takes aim at dogmatic religionists who parrot conventional scriptural phrases and customary sectarian arguments (வழக்கு) while their own inner minds starve in spiritual agony and confusion. He exposes the absurdity of their pretensions through a sharp grain-measure analogy: claiming to possess the full measure of liberation (the Nazhi) without having realized its foundational parts (the Ulakku) is the babble of the spiritually mute. In the internal mathematics of the Siddhas, the full measure of divine realization is built upon integrating the four quarters—the four states of consciousness (waking, dream, deep sleep, and the transcendent Turiya) or the progressive inner stages of realization. The eternal Lord (ஈசன்) does not dwell in conventional disputes or sectarian dogmas; He is permanently established (மன்னும்) in the purified, tranquil space of the inward mind.
