Reciting the four Vedas is not waved away. The question is whether one knows the single knowledge inside that recitation. The next line is tightly printed: that knowledge is spoken as the four Sama portions, a teaching already uttered. Shiva of the poison-drinking throat, Brahma, and Vishnu are then named in one row. What is held in the heart after long thought is Sivaya. Many chants and three gods are gathered to one syllable, and the holding is in the chest.
The teaching
Sivavakkiyar confronts Vedic scholars chanting the four Vedas, asking whether they have ever realized the singular, non-dual Wisdom hidden at the heart of their chanting. The vast corpus of Vedic hymns, the sacred melodies of the Sama Veda, and even the cosmic triad of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva the poison-drinker are not disparate external deities or scholastic categories. They are all manifest modulations of a single sacred root vibration: Sivaya. When the seeker ceases external disputation, turns contemplation inward, and anchors this primordial five-lettered resonance firmly within the cave of the heart, the multiplicity of scriptures and gods resolves into the immediate, living presence of the Absolute.
