Books are a load on the shoulder, and what is muttered from them is called lies. Where one dies, where one is born, and how that is, stay unknown. If that much thought can be known and looked at, the light that has arisen within the highest becomes a joy that is felt. The song adds no further book.
The teaching
Sivavakkiyar scathingly describes bookish pandits as beasts of burden carrying heavy loads of scriptures on their backs, babbling scholarly dogmas without understanding the most basic mysteries of human existence: Where does the soul go when the body dies, and from whence did it enter at birth? All their academic erudition cannot answer the reality of mortality. The Siddha insists that if one sets aside textual pedantry and turns the gaze inward to contemplate the true threshold of life and death, the supreme Light dwelling in the highest reaches of consciousness will reveal itself—not as an abstract theory, but as an overwhelming, experiential bliss (உணரும் போகம்).
