The recital is a string of refusals: I am not, you are not, the Lord is not. The light is not in the sky and not a light set apart. It is within us. When I and you have become the same, seeking in order to see is asked whether it can still be done. The last line stops being a sentence and leaves a run of sounded beats on the tongue.
The teaching
In a stunning flight of radical Advaitic mysticism, Sivavakkiyar dismantles all conventional theological constructs: there is no separate 'I', no separate 'you', and no external 'Lord' to be codified in speech. The divine Light is not a celestial beacon shining in an extraterrestrial heaven; it is the self-luminous awareness burning within our own hearts. When the illusory division between seeker and Divine collapses into absolute sameness, the very concept of seeking dissolves—for who is left to find whom? At this transcendent summit where language exhausts itself, intellectual discourse abruptly ceases, giving way to the pure, ecstatic, rhythmic pulse of unconditioned being
