What stands in the middle is the one, and it is neither the good nor the bad. The reasoning after that is compressed. A thing that goes about calling itself good, once it has become good and remained, stands as good. Call what is not good by the name bad, and it becomes bad. So one must stand seeking what one has called good, and say the name. The labels harden into the things they name.
The teaching
Sivavakkiyar addresses the paradox of absolute transcendence and relative spiritual practice. In its unconditioned essence, the Supreme Reality is beyond moral dualities—it is neither 'good' nor 'bad', standing immaculate as the neutral, unchanging Center However, in the realm of embodied experience, consciousness takes on the exact quality of what it contemplates: if the mind labels and dwells on negativity, it degenerates; if it directs its attention toward the auspicious and divine, it is elevated into that goodness. Therefore, the seeker must anchor their awareness in the transcendent Good, standing firm in the central channel and chanting the sacred Name to stabilize liberation.
