Forest, mound, hill, hollow, and the river of the grove can all be left behind, and country after country as well. The singer asks whether people who wander off like that will see the Lord's feet. Your soul, out of its cage, looks only toward the dancer's town, and the printed join of those words is tight. Even that look does not seat them on the feet of Hara, the feet that have gained release. Departure and a glance toward the dancer's town still leave them unseated.
The teaching
Sivavakkiyar dismantles the widespread illusion that physical pilgrimage brings spiritual enlightenment. Mortals leave behind their homes, crossing dense forests, mountains, valleys, and wild rivers, yet their frantic wandering across foreign countries never reveals the sacred feet of the Lord (நாதன்பாதம் காண்பரோ). Sivavakkiyar exposes their fundamental error: while their soul remains imprisoned within the physical cage of ignorance (கூடு), they fixate their outward desires exclusively upon physical temple towns—such as the shrine of the Cosmic Dancer (கூத்தனூர்). By seeking the Divine outside themselves, they fail to awaken and stabilize their consciousness upon the liberated feet of Hara (வீடுபெற்ற அரன்பதம்) residing within the inner sanctum of the heart. The true Chidambaram is the inner space of pure awareness; no amount of geographical travel can substitute for internal self-realization.
