He is the lord of Tillai, and he is the lord of Tiruvarangam. He is the world that has become every limit, and he is the one release. Against that, names that live only in tooth and tongue are divided, spoken, and enjoyed. People who talk up separate powers and favorites will find the mouth itself gone to worms. The previous lines had already set the two lords in one dwelling. Here the same refusal reaches the two famous halls and the pleasure of sorting their names.
The teaching
Sivavakkiyar continues his radical obliteration of the Shaiva-Vaishnava conflict that historically plagued the Tamil lands. Nataraja dancing in the cosmic space of Chidambaram (Thillai) and Ranganatha reclining upon the serpent of eternity in Srirangam (Tiruvarangam) are not rival gods, but manifestations of the one supreme Consciousness that constitutes both the finite material world and infinite liberation (ஏகமுத்தி). The poet reserves his fiercest ire for sectarian debaters who use their physical faculties—teeth and tongue—to draw petty divisions and boast of theological superiority. Those who weaponize speech to fracture the non-dual Divine will suffer karmic decay, their very mouths decaying into dust.
