The body is read as the place where the outward gods have their marks. The moon is the left eye and the sun the right. One hand holds conch and discus, the other trident, deer, and axe, so both lords' signs occupy one frame. The lifted foot and the tall crown sit past the eight directions. Who can see the mystery that stands mixed into the body? The emblems are what that seeing would have to include.

The teaching

A profound revelation of the esoteric human microcosm (பிண்டம்) as the cosmic macrocosm (அண்டம்), shattering the sectarian divide between Shaivism and Vaishnavism. Sivavakkiyar perceives the unified deity—Hari-Hara—dwelling within the practitioner's own subtle anatomy. The left and right eyes correspond to the lunar (Chandra / Ida) and solar (Surya / Pingala) nadis of Vasi yoga. In this supreme inner vision, the attributes of Vishnu (conch and discus) and Shiva (trident, deer, and axe) unite into a single cosmic form whose dance transcends the cardinal directions. The Siddha challenges the blind orthodox world: who possesses the awakened inner sight to behold this magnificent, boundless divine presence dwelling directly within one's own flesh and breath?

A measure of batter and a measure of salt are the test. Once mixed, they count as one measure, and that is how the discus-lord and Ishvara are to be understood: they have a place where they sit and live together. The next line is tight. It sets a bull-and-six form of the lord beside the holder of the moving wheel. People who tell those as separate stories fall into a hell that does them no good, because the dwelling was never two.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar delivers an uncompromising condemnation of sectarian fanaticism through the vivid Advaitic metaphor of salt dissolving seamlessly into water When salt and water unite, their separate measures vanish into an indivisible whole; in precisely the same manner, Shiva and Vishnu are non-different aspects of the single, indivisible supreme Reality residing within the human heart. Sectarian zealots who split hairs, generating doctrinal disputes and claiming superiority of one divine name over the other, remain entirely blind to this non-dual truth (அபேதம்). Sivavakkiyar warns that such intellectual blindness and tribal bigotry only plunges souls into the pointless hell of spiritual delusion.

Verse 55

He is the lord of Tillai, and he is the lord of Tiruvarangam. He is the world that has become every limit, and he is the one release. Against that, names that live only in tooth and tongue are divided, spoken, and enjoyed. People who talk up separate powers and favorites will find the mouth itself gone to worms. The previous lines had already set the two lords in one dwelling. Here the same refusal reaches the two famous halls and the pleasure of sorting their names.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar continues his radical obliteration of the Shaiva-Vaishnava conflict that historically plagued the Tamil lands. Nataraja dancing in the cosmic space of Chidambaram (Thillai) and Ranganatha reclining upon the serpent of eternity in Srirangam (Tiruvarangam) are not rival gods, but manifestations of the one supreme Consciousness that constitutes both the finite material world and infinite liberation (ஏகமுத்தி). The poet reserves his fiercest ire for sectarian debaters who use their physical faculties—teeth and tongue—to draw petty divisions and boast of theological superiority. Those who weaponize speech to fracture the non-dual Divine will suffer karmic decay, their very mouths decaying into dust.

Every direction and every life is given one father, one lord. He is not left as a title over them. He is the flame that sprouts inside the seed of power. The mind has to clear, and the temple of the Veda has to open, before anything is seen. What is seen first is the father's dance. After that dance, another appears: the dance of settling, of being contained. The outburst is not the last vision the lines will allow.

The teaching

An esoteric map of Kundalini awakening and universal consciousness. The supreme Father is not an aloof monarch in the sky, but the divine light inherent in all directions and living beings, arising as the luminous flame (சுடர்) within the foundational primal energy-seed of Shakti (சத்தியான வித்து). Through yogic purification, when the intellect becomes crystal clear, the esoteric temple of true wisdom (வேதக் கோயில்) unlocks within the sahasrara. There, the seeker first witnesses the vibrant cosmic dance of creation and manifestation (அத்தன் ஆடல்), which culminates in the sublime dance of cosmic quietude and laya (அடங்கல் ஆடல்)—where all movement dissolves into pure, non-dual stillness.

The books one has met are not thrown out. They are to be known within, known again, and sung from there. Standing with clinging cut, a person reaches what is beyond even the supreme. The next line is compressed in the print: an inner room tied to an illusion already struck down, and the pride of that room to be cut and reset. Then the light stops being a visitor. It lives inside as one's own household, with no end named. Knowledge, in these lines, is a change of address.

The teaching

True scripture is not an external parchment to be mechanically memorized; it is the living truth realized continuously within the cavern of one's own being (உம்முளே உணர்ந்துணர்ந்து). Sivavakkiyar instructs the seeker to sever the bonds of worldly attachment (பற்றறுத்து) in order to touch the transcendent Reality (பராபரம்). By entering the secret inner chamber of consciousness (உள்ளறை), subduing the primordial beast of illusion (மா), and slaughtering the ego's pride, the inner temple is sanctified. In that purified space, the supreme effulgence (சோதி) does not remain an occasional visitor, but makes its eternal home within the seeker, abiding as close and natural as one's dearest family.

Four arrivals are named and left unexplained. Something rose as knowing. Something came as water. Something entered as essence. Something ripened as fire. No system is built out of the four. The hearer is told to chant. Chant the five and the three as the letter that has become one, and chant the name that says Rama, Rama, Rama. The name sits in the same command as the elements and the single letter. It is given to the mouth directly, with the familiar ஓதடா, chant, you.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar synthesizes embryology, elemental cosmology, and Siddha mantra-yoga. The cosmic Spirit manifests as pure awareness (போதம்), condenses into the fluid waters of the womb, enters the biological frame as the foundational vital essences (தாது), and matures through the internal metabolic and spiritual fire (தணல்). The esoteric formula "five and three becoming one letter" represents the harmonious fusion of the Five Elements/Panchakshara (5) and the Three Gunas/Mandala syllables (3) into the single, primordial Pranava. In Siddha esotericism, reciting the name "Rama" (the Agni seed 'Ra' and Soma nectar seed 'Ma') ignites the inner sacrificial fire, unifying breath, consciousness, and elements into immortal wholeness.
