Two and one are the root, inside a wheel that moves. You lie curled as three rings, small as a mark on the skin. A conch-sound rises with force and goes through the root channel. Sivaya sits in the city of the hall's lord. Sound travels between the mark-like coils and the city, and the name is what is seated when the sound has gone through. The you of the coils is addressed directly.

The teaching

A vivid, breathtaking depiction of Kundalini awakening through Nada yoga. In the dynamic base wheel (the Muladhara, where Ida, Pingala, and Sushumna converge), the primordial cosmic energy slumbers as the Kundalini serpent, coiled three-and-a-half times (மூன்று வளையமாய்), resting inconspicuous like a tiny birthmark. When awakened through pranayama and yogic intent, a mighty internal cosmic sound—the primordial resonance of the divine conch (சங்கின் ஓசை / Anahata Nada)—surges upward through the central Sushumna channel (மூலநாடி ஊடுபோய்). Ascending through the centers, it reaches the supreme city of the Divine Lord in the Sahasrara (அரங்கன் பட்டணம்), where it dissolves into supreme, transcendent stillness as the ever-abiding Sivayam.

Verse 98

  1. 1Kadalilee thiriyum aamai karaiyileeri muttaiyittuk
  2. 2Kadalilee thirindhapodhu ruupamaana vaarupol
  3. 3Madalulee irukkumengal maniyaranga sodhiyai
  4. 4Udalulee ninaindhunalla unmaiyaanadhu unmaiyee!

A turtle roams the sea, climbs the shore, lays eggs, and the likeness says that when it roams the sea again, form comes to be. The comparison is compressed. Beside it is our light of the jewel-hall, staying in the sheath. Remembered in the body, that good truth is the truth. The turtle's leaving and returning is the figure. Remembering inside the body is the claim the figure carries.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar invokes the classical Siddha allegory of the turtle (கூர்ம நியாயம் / Kurma Dhyana). The mother turtle deposits her eggs on the distant sandy shore and swims back into the vast depths of the ocean; yet, solely through her unbroken, focused maternal concentration and love, the eggs incubate and hatch. In precisely the same manner, the brilliant Divine Light (மணியரங்க சோதி) dwells within the inner sheath of the human vessel. The seeker does not need to abandon the world or wander to physical shrines; by maintaining continuous, loving, and focused remembrance of the Divine within the core of the physical body (உடலுளே நினைந்து), spiritual rebirth occurs spontaneously, and the supreme Truth blossoms into living, undeniable reality.

Verse 99

  2. 2நான்றபாம்பின் வாயிலும் நவின்றெழுந்த அட்சரம்;
  3. 3ஈன்றதாயும் அப்பனும் எடுத்துரைத்த மந்திரம்;

  2. 2Naanrapaambin vaayilum navinrezhundha atsaram;
  3. 3Iinradhaayum appanum eduththuraiththa mandhiram;
  4. 4Thonrumor ezhuththulee sollaengum illaiyee!

In the three spheres, in the pillar that butts them, and in the mouth of the good serpent, a syllable rises already spoken. The mother who gave birth and the father took up a mantra and told it. Then a letter appears, and there is nowhere to say it. Worlds, pillar, serpent, and parents were places of rising. They are not a where for this letter. The song stops on that nowhere.

The teaching

The magnificent grand finale of this fifty-verse cycle, weaving together Kundalini, the Mandalas, and the silent Ekakshara. In Siddha subtle anatomy, the body contains the Three Spheres of Fire, Sun, and Moon (மூன்று மண்டலம்), pierced through by the central cosmic pillar of the Sushumna (முட்டி நின்ற தூண்). From the mouth of the awakened Kundalini serpent, the primordial vibration naturally resounds. This sacred Word is the primordial wisdom bestowed by the divine cosmic parents—Shiva and Shakti. When this solitary, transcendent Letter (ஓர் எழுத்து / the supreme unwritten Pranava) dawns in the zenith of consciousness, all speech, language, scriptures, and worldly sounds are swallowed into absolute, stunned silence. In that sublime stillness, the seeker realizes that the Truth cannot be spoken abroad—it can only be lived as pure, non-dual Being.

Verse 100

The previous song had already shut the hunt for a place to speak the letter. Here the three gods are sent through three, and three, and three, and the hunt still ends inside the five letters, roaring in that same letter. The mother who bore you, the father, and the sound that moves all appear in one circle. You are told there is nowhere else left in which the word can be said.

The teaching

The cosmic Trinity—Brahma, Vishnu, and Rudra—tirelessly search for the Absolute through triadic classifications: the three gunas, the three states of waking, dreaming, and deep sleep, and the threefold divisions of space and time. Yet Sivavakkiyar declares that all these triads collapse into and roar within the primordial Five Letters (Panchakshara / நமச்சிவாயம்). Within this primal acoustic vibration, the cosmic parents—Shiva as the transcendent Father and Shakti as the creative Mother—move in inseparable union as the vibrant Nada-Bindu. This eternal conjunction reveals itself not in external temples, but within the mystic inner mandala (the Sahasrara / cranial sphere) of the practitioner's own being. Once this radiant interior sphere is pierced through yogic awakening, the Siddha recognizes that there is no other place in the entire cosmos where the ultimate Truth can be uttered or found.

Verse 101

The song turns on you and names the body you are proud of. It is a wasting elemental thing, water lying like scurf, and you are the fool who rose with pleasure inside a pot that stinks. The way out is narrow. If the irritation of the five who rage can be cut, you become breath in one of the six of the lord whose matted hair is counted in crores.

The teaching

A scathing, uncompromising reality check on human arrogance and bodily vanity. The poet compares the frail, decomposing physical frame to an unstable heap of elements and diseased scum (சுணங்கு), born from a foul, boiling womb-pot (நாறுகின்ற கும்பி) filled with impure fluids. Despite such humble and perishable biological origins, humans puff themselves up with egoic pride. Sivavakkiyar presents the only true way of transcendence: mastering and severing the turbulent attachments of the five raging senses (சீறுகின்ற ஐவர்). For the yogi who tames these five feral faculties, the soul ascends through the central spinal channel to unite with Shiva—the cosmic ascetic whose matted hair radiates in millions of luminous rays (ஆறுகோடி வேணியார்)—becoming absorbed into the transcendent sixth state of pure, immortal consciousness beyond bodily corruption.

Verse 102

A bright space inside you has called itself a circle and left you confused. The line then sets restraint and drawing-in inside a compressed eightfold curve, and a wheel that turns as eight and eight and eight. Only the last line changes the mood. Once our Lord is known, what can be reached has already risen.

The teaching

An esoteric exposition of yogic geometry and the transcendence of mental illusion. The uninitiated mind is easily hypnotized by the concept of the void or inner space (வெளி) conceptualized as a mere external geometric circle (வட்டம்). Sivavakkiyar points to the Ashtakshara (அட்டவக்கரம் / the eightfold mystic matrix or the eight-petaled lotus of the heart/Ajna), wherein all sensory movements must be restrained and gathered into absolute yogic stillness (அடக்கமும் ஒடுக்கமும்). Operating within the mystic wheel that pulses in dynamic octaves (twenty-four tattvas of psycho-physical reality), the radiant presence of the Divine suddenly dawns. Once our indwelling Lord is experientially realized through internal concentration, the seeker effortlessly attains that which was previously deemed unreachable by the analytical intellect.
