Temple and school are asked what they are. The mark that stands fixed is asked what it is. Mantras recited with the mouth, while one stands worshipping, are asked what they are. The turn is practical. If you bow in the right way in the school of knowledge, you may see God in the school of the body. The body is the school that can hold the sight. Mouth-mantras and temple buildings are the things put in question.
The teaching
One of Sivavakkiyar's most famous iconoclastic verses, radically redefining both the temple and the true seat of learning. What are external stone temples and religious schools What is the use of sectarian bodily marks? What is the value of mechanically muttering mantras with the mouth? The Siddha redirects the seeker to the authentic sanctuary: if you truly humble yourself and worship with sincerity in the school of intuitive Wisdom (ஞானமான பள்ளி), then right here inside the school of the living human body (காயமான பள்ளி), you will directly behold the Supreme Lord! The physical body is not an impure cage to be despised, nor are external stone structures the dwelling of God; the living body itself is the sacred sanctum where the Divine is directly encountered.
