After the dancer has been left without a dusk rite or a dawn rite, these lines turn to knowing. The speaker came to know you only once form had melted. Presence and hiding weigh the same, because the mind had already been full of you the whole time. When the two stood with their forms melted together, the question draws close: were you and I not one? The clarity that follows has a name. Once the sacred has mingled and passed, what stands clear is Sivayam.
The teaching
Sivavakkiyar articulates the zenith of Advaitic (non-dual) union, where the boundary between the individual seeker and the Divine entirely dissolves. As long as consciousness is anchored to external forms and the dualistic illusion of individuality, God remains a distant concept. But once gross embodiment and subtle ego melt together in the furnace of inner contemplation (உருக்கலந்த பின்னல்), true gnosis dawns. Whether the Divine appears manifest or remains concealed is of no consequence to the realized Siddha whose awareness is continually steeped in the sacred presence. In this state of total unitive absorption, subject and object merge into an indivisible whole—"were you and I not one?" When divine grace intermingles and dissolves all worldly perceptions, what shines forth in immaculate clarity is the pure essence of Sivayam.
