ஆழ்ந்த கருத்துரை

ஐம்பூதங்கள், ஐம்பொறிகள், ஐந்தொழில்கள், ஐந்தெழுத்து என அனைத்திற்கும் மூலமாய் நிற்பது ஆதியான பஞ்சாட்சரப் பரம ரகசியமாகும். இத்தத்துவத்தின் ஆழம் அறியாது பிதற்றும் பக்குவமற்ற மனிதர்களைக் கண்டிக்கும் சித்தர், புறத்தே உள்ள எண்ணங்களை ஒடுக்கி, இதயத்தில் பஞ்சாட்சரத்தை ஏகாக்ரமாய் நிலைநிறுத்தித் தியானிக்கப் பணிக்கிறார். அப்படி அந்த மூல ஒலியில் மனம் ஒடுங்கும்போது, எண்ணிக்கைகளும் தத்துவப் பிரிவுகளும் (ஐந்து, ஆறு முதலான பேதங்கள்) யாவும் மறைந்துவிடும்; எங்கும் பரவியுள்ள ஆதியந்தமற்ற ஏக பரம்பொருள் மட்டுமே சுயம்பிரகாசமாய் மிளிரும்.

The word for five is struck like a drum. It is five, it is five, and the beginningless one is five. Then the singer turns on the babblers and asks whether they take this for a green unripe thing. Madmen, he says, that is how you rave. If the five are taken into the heart and one can stand fixed there, five is gone and six is gone, and what shows is the beginningless. Those sounds can also hear as fear and as the way. Either hearing, the count ends.

The teaching

A rhythmic, incisive meditation on the mystery of the Five Letters and the five elements. Sivavakkiyar derides the immature prattlers who dismiss this sacred science as mere wordplay. When the practitioner gathers their scattered attention and firmly anchors the Five Letters in the stillness of the heart, all dualistic divisions of elements, senses, and subtle tattvas dissolve. The conceptual numbers vanish, and the beginningless, infinite Reality reveals itself in undivided splendor.

மண்ணுலகில் மாடமாளிகைகளைக் கட்டி, வலிமையான கதவுகளைப் பூட்டி, நெடுங்காலம் வாழலாம் என்று மமதையில் திளைக்கும் மனிதர்களின் அநித்திய வாழ்வை இப்பாடல் படம் பிடித்துக் காட்டுகிறது. எமதர்மனின் மரண ஓலை வாசலில் ஒலிக்கும்போது, மாளிகைகளும் பூட்டுகளும் உறவுகளும் எவ்விதப் பாதுகாப்பும் தராது; கைகட்டி நடுங்கி நிற்பதைத் தவிர வேறு வழியிருக்காது. உலகப் பற்றுக்களும் செல்வங்களும் அழியக்கூடியவை; ஆலகால விஷத்தை அருந்திய திருநீலகண்டனின் திருவடிகளும், அம்பிகையின் மலர்ப்பாதங்களுமே மரணத்தை வெல்லும் ஒரே நித்தியப் புகலிடமாகும் என்பதை நினைவூட்டுகிறார்.

People build a long house and bar a tall door, and the singer asks whether they sat there happy because they had told themselves they must live. The comfort is staged so it can be interrupted. When Yama's sound arrives, they stand with hands clasped, the gesture of those who can no longer manage the house. The truth named against that locked shelter is the feet of the throat that drank the poison, and the Mother's feet.

The teaching

A vivid exposure of the fragile security humans seek in material fortifications and domestic comforts. People construct expansive mansions, bolt heavy doors, and congratulate themselves on having secured a long and prosperous life. Yet when the ominous summons of Yama (Death) echoes at the threshold, all physical defenses prove useless, leaving the householder trembling with empty, folded hands. Sivavakkiyar reminds us that the only true, unfailing sanctuary in this mortal realm is refuge in the lotus feet of the Poison-Drinking Lord and the Divine Mother.

மனித உடலை ஓர் ஓடத்திற்கு (படகிற்கு) ஒப்பிட்டு, உடலின் நிலையாமையையும் ஆத்ம சாதனையின் அவசியத்தையும் விளக்கும் அற்புதமான உருவகப் பாடல். ஓடம் பழுதடையாமல் இருக்கும்போதே சம்சாரக் கடலைக் கடந்து, ஆன்ம விடுதலையை உறுதி செய்து கொள்ள வேண்டும். மரணம் என்னும் பாறையில் மோதி இந்த உடலாகிய படகு உடையும்போது, ஆன்மா எல்லையற்ற சூனியப் பெருவெளியில் தனித்து விடப்படும்; அங்கே உதவுவதற்குப் படகோட்டியோ, ஊன்றுகோலோ, உலக பந்த பாசங்களோ எவருமே இருக்க மாட்டார்கள். எனவே, மூச்சுள்ள போதே மெய்ப்பொருளைத் தேடி அடைவதே அறிவாகும்.

The body is a boat, and the verse is tender about the time one still has it. While the boat is there, one may run and roam, and one may also make firm what has to be made firm. The second permission is the real urging: use the boat while it holds. When the boat breaks, the scene is an open without compare, and in that open there is no dancing, no pole, and no person. It has simply become. The afterward is left bare.

The teaching

A poignant and urgent allegory of the mortal body as a temporary boat (ஓடம்). While this physical vessel remains sound and seaworthy, the seeker must actively navigate the waters of life to establish a firm foundation in spiritual realization. Once the fragile boat of the body inevitably breaks apart upon the reef of death, the soul is cast into the peerless, boundless void (ஒப்பிலாத வெளி) where no companion, no earthly guide, no worldly dance, and no pole can ever offer assistance.

புற உலகக் கிரியைகளிலும், வேள்விகளிலும், குடும்ப பந்தங்களிலும் மூழ்கிக் கிடப்போருக்கு விடுக்கப்படும் தீவிர எச்சரிக்கை. பெரிய வீடுகளைக் கட்டி, யாகங்களைச் செய்து, மாடு, மக்கள், மனைவி, சுற்றத்தார் என்ற உலகியல் மாயையில் மெய்யையும் பொய்யையும் கலந்து வாழ்ந்து மடியும் மனிதர்களே! நடுவுநிலை தவறாத எமனின் அழைப்பு ஓலை வரும்போது, நீங்கள் போற்றிப் பாதுகாத்த இந்த உடலானது வீதியில் கிடக்கும் உடைந்த ஓட்டுச் சில்லளவு கூடப் பெறாத வெறும் சவமாகிவிடும். புறவேடச் சடங்குகளும் குடும்ப மாயையும் ஆன்மாவைக் கரைசேர்க்காது; அகத்தில் மெய்ம்மையை உணர்வதே கதி என்றுணர்த்துகிறார்.

The song looks at people in the middle of a successful life: raising a house, performing sacrifice, living as truth mixed with falsehood, and naming cattle, children, women, and kin as what they have. The interruption is a palm-leaf summons that comes into the hand of the middle-one who has taken the country, the caller these songs know as Yama. If that leaf arrives, the body will be seen fetching not even a potsherd's price. Property and rite set no value on the corpse.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar strips away the false prestige of worldly wealth, elaborate fire sacrifices, and domestic possessiveness (கிரியை நிலை). People pride themselves on grand homes, Vedic rituals, cattle, children, spouses, and extended kinship. Yet when the unyielding warrant of Yama arrives, this meticulously pampered physical body cannot fetch even the value of a broken potsherd. External ceremonial piety and social status are revealed as completely worthless in the face of inevitable mortality.

உயிர்களின் உற்பத்தி நிலையையும் அத்வைத ஒருமைப்பாட்டையும் விளக்கும் உன்னதப் பாடல். ஆதிக்கும் முந்தைய ஆதியாய் விளங்கும் பரம்பொருளை நோக்கும் சித்தர், கருவில் உருவாவதற்கு முன்னால் ஆண் என்றும் பெண் என்றும் எந்தப் பால் பேதமும் உயிர்களுக்கு இருந்ததில்லை என்பதைச் சுட்டிக்காட்டுகிறார். கண், மூக்கு, நாக்கு, செவி ஆகிய ஐம்பொறிகளையும், சிந்தையையும் கடந்து உள்ளுணர்வால் ஆன்ம விசாரணையில் நிலைபெறும் போது, படைத்த பரம்பொருளும் சீவாத்மாவாகிய நானும் வேறல்ல; இரண்டும் ஒரே பரம்பொருளின் வெளிப்பாடே (தத்துவமஸி) என்ற அத்வைதப் பெருநிலை ஒளிவீசுகிறது.

The singer addresses the lord as beginningless, and as beginningless even before the beginningless, then asks a blunt question about birth. Before anything is born, are female and male not one? On the day the seed of the eyeless one swells in the womb, how do the people of earth and the people of sky arrive? Origin is refused the comfort of a story told after the bodies are already two. The manner of that coming is asked of the lord, and the question is left standing.

The teaching

An esoteric biological and metaphysical inquiry into primordial human conception and non-duality (உற்பத்தி நிலை). Before physical birth, male and female principles exist as an undivided unity within the beginningless Source. When the semen of the father fertilizes the ovum in the dark womb, how do all beings of heaven and earth take form? Sivavakkiyar pierces through the superficial illusions of gender, status, and lineage, tracing all living creatures back to a single formless, beginningless origin where duality does not exist.

சிவவாக்கியரின் புகழ்பெற்ற மெய்ஞ்ஞான வாக்குமூலம் இது. அறியாமைக் காலத்தில் தான் மரங்களிலிருந்தும் செடிகளிலிருந்தும் பறித்துப் பாழாக்கிய பூக்கள் எத்தனை? பொருளுணராது வாய்மொழியாக உச்சரித்துப் பாழடித்த மந்திரங்கள் எத்தனை? கல்லையும் மண்ணையும் கடவுள் என்று நம்பி ஊர்தோறும் கைதொழுத கோயில்கள் எத்தனை? ஆனால், அண்ட சராசரங்களின் அதிபதியாகிய பரம்பொருள் தன் சொந்த இதயக் குகைக்குள்ளேயே நித்தியமாய் வீற்றிருக்கும் பேரொளியைத் தன்னுள் கண்டுகொண்ட கணத்தில், அந்தப் புறச்சடங்குகளும் போலிக் கோயில்களும் அடியோடு மறைந்துபோயின என்று அகக் கோயில் உண்மையைப் பறைசாற்றுகிறார்.

The voice turns on the speaker's own past and counts it in the same tired question. How many flowers did I pluck and throw away, how many mantras did I recite in wastelands, how many waters did I pour while roaming as a stubborn fool, how many Siva temples came crowding round again? The questions are an inventory of outward religion that kept multiplying. Temples arriving in a crowd is the last item, and the line still asks what that number was worth.

The teaching

Sivavakkiyar reflects upon his own past life of mechanical ritualism with enlightened disillusionment (அறிவு நிலை). How many millions of flowers did he pick and discard in worship? How many mantras did he chant into the empty air? How many gallons of water did he pour over idols as a stubborn, blind pilgrim, circling endless Shiva shrines? He exposes the utter futility of external ceremonies that consume the seeker's life without awakening the divine light within.
