Four clear practices are matched with four fruits, in the old order of the paths. Good conduct, chariya, takes one on to saloka, the same world. Good rite and worship, kriya, may join one to samipya, nearness. Good yoga may join one to sarupa, likeness of form. Clear knowledge, among the four, may join one to sayujya, union. The verse does not collapse the four into one slogan. It keeps each path's fruit distinct, and it saves the closest union for the knowledge that has become clear.
The teaching
A structured, classical exposition of the four Saiva spiritual paths and their corresponding fruits: 1) Pure Charya (righteous living, humility, and selfless service) leads to Saloka (residing in the divine realm). 2) Pure Kriya (internalized worship, ritual discipline, and devotion) leads to Samipya (living in close intimate nearness to the Divine). 3) Pure Yoga (breath mastery, Kundalini awakening, and sensory withdrawal) leads to Sarupa (attaining likeness to the divine form). 4) Pure Jnana (transcendental non-dual wisdom), supreme among the four, leads to Sayujya (complete, indivisible union and dissolution into the Divine). Sivavakkiyar presents the fourfold path not as rival doctrines, but as a harmonious spiritual ascent, highlighting experiential wisdom as the sole crowning vehicle for ultimate liberation.
