People who have clarity will say that joining is knowledge. The song refuses the claim that joining is the excellence of the four paths. Those who join are the ones who received Siva's state and holy grace. See how that joining happens, and let the work of the four stand firm. The four are denied the rank of an explanation. Grace is the arrival. The work still has to hold.
The teaching
Those endowed with authentic spiritual discernment declare that true union with the Divine is synonymous with Jnana (experiential wisdom), rather than the mere mechanical performance of the four external stages (பாதம்). Ultimate liberation into Shiva’s state (சிவகதி) is attained exclusively by those who receive the descent of Divine Grace (திருவருள்). Yet Sivavakkiyar does not preach antinomian carelessness: recognizing how Grace actually operates through spiritual maturity, the seeker must stand firm and diligent in the practical disciplines of the four paths. External actions must be illuminated by inner wisdom, ensuring that spiritual practice is grounded in humble surrender rather than ritual pride.
