Remain in the nature our father Isa set down. Knowing the middle, one reaches the excellent Thing. A famous search is then told against itself. The glosses give மால் as Tirumal, பார் as the world, and இடந்து as having dug. Vishnu and Brahma hunted in haste for root and crown, dug the world, were born in the sky, and still did not see. The middle is where those searches never stood. Haste and digging fail.
The teaching
Abide serenely in the natural spiritual equilibrium established by our Father, the Supreme Lord. By discerning the "middle" (நடு / the central Sushumna path, balancing between Ida and Pingala, between sensory indulgence and rigid asceticism), one unites with the immaculate Reality. Sivavakkiyar reinterprets the famous Puranic myth of Brahma and Vishnu: Vishnu dug frantically into the subterranean earth to find Shiva’s feet, while Brahma flew into the heavens to locate Shiva’s crown, yet both failed in their egoistic haste. The infinite Divine cannot be discovered through outward climbing or downward excavation; It reveals Itself only to those who cease all restless seeking and rest in the tranquil Middle Channel within.
