Born in water, you still make a rite of water. The singer asks whom you think of while you pour all that water into distress. The word for the place of pouring is tight. It reads as calamity, and it sits where a funeral pouring would sit. Then the instruction changes: think of the root, the art, and what sprouts in the seed. If that excellence is held in mind, Siva's state is reached.
The teaching
The Siddha exposes the irony of humans who, having been conceived and gestated in the amniotic waters of the womb, spend their adult lives performing mechanical water rites, libations, and funeral oblations. Sivavakkiyar asks with biting urgency: toward whom are you directing these thoughts while wasting precious water and vital breath in distressful, futile rituals? Rather than pouring water onto external earth, the seeker must meditate upon the root of life (the Muladhara), contemplate the primordial spiritual seed (the seed-syllables of the mantra), and realize the magnificent sprout of divine Consciousness blossoming from that inner source. By attuning to this living internal origin, one effortlessly reaches the immortal state of Shiva (சிவபதம்).
