The old map is unrolled at full size: seven worlds, seven seas, eight places, and the hills; the mountain that rings the sky; seven worlds as speech tells them; the dark one of the ocean, the holder of the sky, the cosmic egg, world inside world. All of it rises and folds back inside the light of the lord of the age. The map is enjoyed, then given no life of its own. Expansion and contraction share that one light.
The teaching
Sivavakkiyar contemplates the vastness of the macrocosm only to dissolve it into the inner effulgence of the Lord of Eternity (ஊழியான்). The seven netherworlds, the seven cosmic oceans, the eight directions, the primordial mountain ranges circling the sky, the seven upper heavens, and the entire Brahmanda—the infinite cosmic egg enfolding worlds within worlds—possess no independent reality. This entire magnificent cosmic pageant continuously emerges from and contracts back into the single, primordial Light of the Timeless One. The Siddha perceives that cosmic creation and dissolution are merely the rhythmic inhalation and exhalation of the Supreme Consciousness shining within the heart.
